You enter the training center, a large facility filled with all the equipment you need to prepare yourself for combat or other survival skills. The training center is divided into 12 stations for each skill. Which station will you use?
During the skill training days you will have the opportunity to learn new skills or show off existing skills. There are two days for activities and you can work on ONE skill per day. The skill you decide to improve will make that skill score public to all players. You will be rewarded with extra sponsor points if you show off skills that you are highly trained in (especially Mastery, though Mastered skills cannot be improved).
Tributes may elect to help each other train. If two tributes work together on the same skill, they increase their chances of gaining 2 skill points. If a tribute with Mastery in a skill helps a tribute with 0 or 1 skill points in the same skill, that tribute will automatically gain 2 skill points instead of 1. However, the tribute with mastery gains none.
Example submission: Juliet races over to the Unarmed Combat station to start demonstrating her masterful skills. She spars with the trainers, showing off her quick footwork, and she easily subdues her opponents. When her new friend Gavin from district 4 shows up she shows him the basic combat stances. She laughs at first when he can't handle the most basic moves, but by the end of the day he starts becoming a more powerful opponent.
UPDATED Submission Deadline: Tuesday, July 30th 11:00 PM

Post by Dolan Tawt on Jul 29, 2013 8:58:35 GMT -6
Dolan knew what he lacked and he knew his strengths, whether to show off for the game makers and intimidate the others or to gain knowledge in a potentially life saving skill?
But it would seem that today he would be helping out a friend or two. Those friends would be helping him too since he was lousy at scouting in the first place.
Dolan would wait for William to show up before they both attempted the virtual reality that helped them learn to spot things. Dolan had been trying it out earlier and to no avail, so he asked William if he would come train with him, maybe they could learn and work off one another.
Dolan liked William so he did not mind helping him learn a skill that would help him survive. Dolan only hoped that it didn't end up costing him his life somehow. Once they trained William could definitely survey things much better. He learned to spot traps, enemies and even check for signs of wildlife or edible flora. Dolan became very efficient at doing this quickly too, near the end of training with William, the clock would rarely run down on him before he would spot everything.
Dolan was grateful for the training with William and the others, he could only hope that they got just as much from it.

Post by Alys Stout on Jul 29, 2013 13:17:09 GMT -6
Alys observed her fellow district mate making a bit of a fool of himself. She had to determine whether or not she should attempt to uphold her district's name by flaunting one of her skills, or to take a risk at learning something new.
Alys wasn't sure she was ready to show her hand just yet, and decided to work on improving a skill: gathering.
She approached a station that contained guides to edible and poisonous plants. At home, she loved to read. And she attacked the books as rigorously as the few books her parents could afford to buy her at home, though she had read them over and over again.
Alys studied which plants could extend her life, and which could end them. On a nearby table laid examples of some of the plants. Alys tasted the edible plants, studying them for color, texture, and structure. She spent even more time examining the plants that could end her time in the games, carefully examining the subtle differences between these plants and their similar edible counterparts.
After she had studied for several hours, she tested herself. She picked two similar plants, one poisonous, and one edible. She scrambled them up with her eyes closed, and then opened her eyes, carefully examining each plant for nearly five minutes. At last she made her choice. She at the sweet berries and then waited.
Later that evening she was fine, nothing had happened to her, she had made the right choice.

Post by Derrin Verittia on Jul 29, 2013 13:46:08 GMT -6
Derrin decided that since no one had replied, nor had anyone written on the paper he said, maybe next time people would be more willing to use it. Either way Derrin took note of what others were doing in the room before he decided to move over to where the other scouters were.
“Hey everyone, just measuring some power levels do not mind me.” He grabbed one of the headsets that Dolan had grabbed when he started doing the scouting and realized that he was probably the worst scout in existence. That however was why he was training it. However he could not let anyone else know he was terrible.
He removed the helmet and looked over at Dolan. “You know what. Your right this defiantly more than I needed for my heart. Those axes are cheap.” He blinked a few times and decided that maybe people wanted space while they focused on stuff. As such he would sit on this headset till his eyes bled trying to learn it. Scouting would be important and as such he Dedicated this time to it.

Titus entered the room, sensing the anxiety of the others. It was obvious that he didn't want to give away all of his tricks, but he didn't want to appear weak either... he headed over to the unarmed combat station. "Simple enough" he thought. Afterall, he'd been born to fight. He started warming up, hoping for a chance to spar. The harder he went, the sharper his mind became. All of the stress that he had been under melted away as he practiced form after form. he mind kept narrowing on the same conclusion: "I was born for this"

Sophie walks into the training room. She sees the unarmed training area and the other member from her district there. She realizes she's small and know little about combat.
She politely asks the trainer if he could teach her some moves.
At first, she doesn't get it and falls flat on her butt. But she gets up and tries again... And again.
She becomes a little more confident in ability. She uses her speed and small form to dodge the the oncoming hits.
The trainer gets ahold of her. She struggles to break free. After some flailing, she twists around, leaps up with all her might and smashes the top of her head intuit the trainer's chin. He releases her.
She thanks the trainer and leaves.

David walks into the training room. He immediately goes to the survival station. Flint, steel, birch, wood, pelts, a survival manual. Everything that was needed to learn to survive. Immediately David starts to get hot. He starts sweating. "I guess it's starting." David starts to build cover. It's not the best but there's now shade. He begins to work on a way to collect water. It's really scorching now and David is starting to feel woozy- he passes out.
David wakes up with a trainer feeding him water. As soon as he can hold the canteen himself the trainer walks away. It starts to get cold now...
"Holy Shit, this is exhausting."

Mallory strolls into the room and looks around and hesitates.
This isn’t going to be easy. Do I show a weakness or a strength? And would any of this make a difference one the game started.
She sighed and headed towards the ranged weapons.
“Let’s start this game.â€
She notched an arrow and pulled the string taut. These bows are a lot bigger than home. She shot the arrow, the release actually staggering her slightly. Far to high.
This was going to take a while

Anna glides into the room as usual and moves to the escape station. As gracefully as she moves, she is surprisingly average at breaking grapples. Determined as always she keeps at it until she finally starts doing a bit better.
Once she gets through grapple breaks she takes some time studying the snares that are around the station. Once she studies them for a few minutes she sets one off on herself. At first she cannot break free, and one of the workers offers to help by resetting the trap. However Anna tells them to back off. She had been struggling before, but then she becomes very still. Carefully controlling her body as she re-studies the trap. Then with a graceful couple of motions breaks the main line of the trap and frees herself.
The only way one could tell she was pleased with herself was the half smile she let herself crack. She then goes back to work studying the other types of traps and snares to learn how they function as well.

Post by Adriana "Age" Leaf on Jul 29, 2013 22:14:30 GMT -6
Age heads to the hunting station and practices using a variety of weapons to hit bird shaped targets that swing through the air. She is only able to hit a few of the targets and she seems to fumble with the long range weapons. However, being from the livestock district she proves that she has some skill in cleaning the animals and preparing the meat.
Determined to improve her hunting skill she thinks back to her earlier conversation with Dolan. "Don't be afraid to show your strengths," she says quietly to herself. Age drops the bow she is holding and exchanges it for a pair of daggers. After working closely with the trainer she is able to use her stealth and close range combat skills to develop an effective hunting technique.

Natalya wandered into the practice area. "This is going to be interesting", she muttered to herself. "Proklyatiye", I make terrible first impressions. She looked towards people who were talking and chatting--future alliances in the making.
She contemplated going over but her nerves got the best of her and she walked over to the track. Better late then never to try and work on her stamina. Escape was not her strong suit. She would rather just punch someone.
She sees Anna--another tribute--working on breaking free of traps. She admired her determination and decided to have the trainer push her to do sprints. "Here goes nothing", she thought and broke into a run.

After gawking at the facilities in amazement, Michelangelo decided to go swimming to show off his abilities. He lived near the coast for much of his early childhood and kept up with swimming later on throughout the more recent years. Despite being younger than many, he is still a very fast swimmer in comparison and proceeded to swim laps to hone his skills. After all, he didn't want to lose what he worked so hard in gaining. Furthermore, he feels a sense of relaxation while in the water due to the large sums of time spent in the water. It made him feel at home even though he was far from it.

A wispy girl with tawny hair and hazel eyes walks into the training center. She looks around at all the stations before deciding to head over to the melee weapons. She grabbed a couple daggers and started sparring with the instructor. She ends up bruised and beaten, but has learned some valuable tricks that could come in handy later on.

Fenlen entered the training center and automatically moved toward the long range weapons. He was familiar with those from years of keeping predators away from fields of livestock and was excited by the quality of the equipment. But before he neared the station, he changed his mind. He needed to be realistic with himself about his ability to fight people unarmed. He had a little bit of skill just from growing up and fighting with other boys, but he wasn't very technically skilled. He made his way to the unarmed combat station and began sparring.

After looking over a few books about survival techniques, Katie decided to try out some of the simulators. She was able to handle changes in weather and such alright in the past but she knew that there was plenty of room to improve. As the temperature in the room changed from hot to cold, she hoped that those books that she had glanced over knew what they were talking about.

"Keep your head moving, Talia, like we worked on before."
The peacekeeper towered over the twelve year old girl as they squared off in a faux forest environment of the training rooms.
Talia's long braid bobbed erratically as she took her combat stance, arms raised to guard her head. The peacekeeper's powerful punch struck air as the wisp of a girl dropped down, scooping a fistful of dirt off the forest floor before casting it in the face of the hapless man.
The soft thud of padding striking padding rebounded off the training walls as Talia's gloved fist lodged itself into her trainer's stomach.
"Not bad, Talia!" the trainer cried, rubbing the debris from his eyes. "Excellent improvisation there with the dirt, but..." He paused, taking her gloved fist in his hand and guiding it farther up his stomach. "The solar plexus is up here, between the middle portion of the chest and the abdominal muscles. It's a soft tissue, hopefully you'll knock the wind out of 'em."
"I still have considerable improvement to make before the Games." Replied Talia, raising her arms into formation once more.

Jaden shows up for the Skill Day looking fresh and untouched. The makeup artists did an outstanding job covering up the cuts and bruises from the scuffle with the peace makers earlier. Jaden heads over to the physical health station, and begins conditioning and strength training in an attempt to make himself as resilient as possible before the Games begin. "No way I'm letting that happen again," he tells himself. "No one is going to bring me down next time."

Post by Quinn Watson on Jul 30, 2013 17:28:30 GMT -6
A hunched over boy enters the training room and takes a look around. His eye is drawn to a section filled with various supplies labeled, “Trapping.â€
He shuffles over nervously, wondering what will happen, and then the trainer starts to introduce the section to him. Eyes focused and hand over his chin, Quinn takes in the instruction and builds his first trap. It works. A smirk crosses Quinn’s face and he mutters to himself.
“Ahh, so you just gotta think like that.†He gets up and runs to look through the books of all different kinds of traps, at first looking carefully through each one with excitement. Though, a look slowly crosses his face of utmost boredom. Quinn flips to the last page with the most difficult trap. His eyes light up and he studies it thoroughly, muttering incomprehensible notes to himself. Then he takes off to build.
After his labor is complete, he excitedly places a dummy underneath the arched trap and taps the ground with a stick. An axe rapidly swings down and blows the dummy back, leaving a gash on its front side. The smile fades from Quinn’s face and he’s left with a blank stare.
“Well…I guess I…should have expected that.†He turns and leaves the arena.

Post by Alona Fisher on Jul 30, 2013 18:26:43 GMT -6
Alona breathed deeply as she entered the room. She had told herself to stay calm; that fear would solve nothing. then again, everyone else was trying to look intimidating or unafraid as well. Maybe it wasn't such a bad thing to show that she was terrified. At least then she could die in this battle knowing she hadn't put on a face. She had always hated that about the announcers while watching the Games at home. They always commented on the brave faces that they saw. Alona knew that there was no way every one of them could be brave. Someone had to be terrified. But, that was part of the Games she guess. Glorifying what everyone back home saw in order to give the small comfort that all of this was just a story.
Heading over to one of the trainers, Alona tried to give him her most charming smile. By the way he was looking back at her, it most likely was coming off as some sort of grin that stretched to tightly across her face. She always did have issues making people trust her.
The trainer was there to help her though and she knew that her strength was next to nothing when compared to some of the guys in this group.
Catching her off guard, the trainer came at her and started taking her through a serious of moves, calling for her to block, duck and dogdge. Alona got knocked upside the head a few times but by the end of it, the fight that would eventually decide her life, felt more like a dance than anything else.
Smiling, she continued to train, almost laughing as she dodged another hit to the side of her head. As she left the room a while later she couldn't help but feel that maybe the games wouldn't be so bad after all.

Post by Perrin Torly on Jul 30, 2013 20:20:48 GMT -6
Perrin stepped into the training room, his earlier confidence taking a hit as he saw the other tributes training so hard around the room. Everyone seemed to be so sure of themselves, to have slipped into this role perfectly that he felt out of place. But then he thought to himself, "That's ridiculous, most people don't live their lives training, hoping to become a tribute. These are just like me." A trainer rebuked a tribute after they made a mistake, and Perrin felt much more at ease.
Trying to decide whether to show off his strengths or work on his weaknesses, Perrin settled on the health and endurance station. "There's no way I'm going down easy," he thought.

Millie walked out onto the training room floor, "Ok," she thought to herself, "I'm showing off my best skill today and I'm not even going to get anything for it." She considered this as she found her way to an area of the training floor litters with bamboo stalks roped together representing proxies of human bodies for sword practice.
"Ok now Decimus swordplay is as much an art as it is a skill. You're movements have to be fluid and you have to anticipate where the target will dodge so that you can strike there instead of where it was."
"Now," she said removing a scrap of cloth from her pocket, "the best way to improve those sense is to practice blind." She wrapped the cloth around her head and across her eyes. "THIS will just be a demonstration but if you study well today I'm sure you'll be able to pull off something close."
With that she unsheathed her twin blades. They were wrought from steal with a gold inlay. The handle of one was pure engraved ivory and the other was ebony. The looked something like a katana but they were wider giving the appearance that a katana and a scimitar had gotten together and had a gaudy child. "It's now or never," she thought to herself as she shut her eyes begin the blindfold.
She could feel them. They weren't living creatures but she could feel them as off they were giving off ripples in the air. He just needed to follow those ripples back to the source.
She flew through the air doing a backflip that ended with her swords held behind her back cutting the bamboo stalks in three equal portions all the way through.
She struck out with her swords to the right and left and impaled the two bamboo bundles there pulling them up into the air and back to the ground again impaling them on the floor.
Finally she turned around faced behind her. She sensed her fellow tribute there in front of her. "Dear god I hope he holds still," she thought to herself. An with that she slashed with both blades in the jape of an x directly towards Decimus.
Her blades found their mark and the bamboo cluster begin Decimus fell over as it was cut into quarters. She took off her blindfold and looked Decimus over. A few of his hairs fluttered in the air. "Ok just a couple hairs," she thought as she internally sighed, "I was afraid I had taken an ear."
"Now that was the fun part," she said addressing Decims, "I'm going to have to work you hard today if you're going to how ANY improvement."

The two square off and the battle begins. 'holy fuck', thought Decimus. 'she's trying to kill me!' Millie easy gets the upper hand and stabs Decimus in the side.
'you cut me you crazy bitch! ' screams Decimus, he grabs his side in pain. 'stop crying you baby' she responds, 'the blades are filled with electricity, your fine.' Feeling stupid Decimus recovers, 'alright let's do this.' For the rest of the day the two tributes spar. Millie shows off he amazing skills and Decimus takes note.

Harmony entered the area in a hurry rush over to the scouting station. "My apologize for being late, I had to chat with our mentor. Anyways..." Harmony brushed off her training uniform and stuck her hand out at Dolan. "It's a pleasure to finally meet you, Dolan. William and I had a deep conversation about you today. He told me that you were looking to train in the art of scouting. I just so happen to know a little bit about that subject." She stepped over to the training center with the other boys and found a place to start. Harmony started out small by working on finding the missing. Every so often she would check to make sure to take it slow enough for both partners to keep up. Once she'd started though, there was no stopping this girl from something she loves. One of the trainers wanted to test Harmony's real skill. The trainer, dressed in complete camo, came up behind Harmony and tried to stab her with a training knife. However, before the helper could get into the clearing for the attack, Harmony, with one hand, grabbed the trainer and applied enough pressure on his hand to make him drop the weapon. She gave a quick glance at the other participants that were watching and then to the sponsors. Harmony abruptly moved away from the trainer with a sort of twinkle in her eyes. One knew that Harmony was pleased with her performance and by the shuffle of the sponsors, she made an impression.
