Millie lifted herself out of the air vent onto the roof. She could see the edge of the building mere feet away and all she had to do now was reach it and her life would change forever.
She took a step forward but something made her hesitate... There was someone else up here...
Millie turned around despite herself, locking eyes with Vester who was brandishing a handgun with a wild look in his eyes.
"Just let me go Vester," she said with an even tone while readying the steak knife she had picked up moments earlier, "You know there is no way I had anything to do with these defenses dropping."
She kept a safe distance between herself and Vester making sure to position a large air conditioning unit between them hoping that it would grant some cover from a gunshot, "You've had cameras follow my every move for THREE YEARS. You KNOW that this wasn't me!"

Next to her was a control panel for the shielding system. "Maybe I could adjust a few settings on here and raise a shield between us if he tries to fire..." she thought to herself.
It was a long shot and she didn't even know if it was possible but if he fired it could give her the few seconds she needed to use the knife.
"If I can just wound him enough to disable his shooting arm I might have the time to escape down the side," she thought to herself.

"Ideas are powerful things, Millie. And when the wrong people latch onto them they can spread like a virus. You've created a brainwashed group of terrorists to annihilate the Capitol chanting the slogan 'No one dies?'" Vester laughed. "You're just full of contradictions. You're as twisted as I am, except this time, the blood is on your hands."
Vester held a communicator up to his mouth. "Kill all power in the Training Center."
A girl's voice replies, "Shutting down."
All of the lights go out and the hum of the shield generator ceases.
"You wanna play a game? Your move."

For a second Millie felt powerless. Until that moment she had felt on even footing with Vester but with one sentence spoken into a communicator he had proven that this was HIS world and HIS rules.
"If only there was some way to..." and then it came to her.
This was a risky move and if it failed it might leave her a disadvantage but if it worked...
"It would even the playing field," she thought to herself.
Millie took a second to glance around roof for a loose piece of concrete and found a promising chunk that fit in her hand.
"I've got one chance at this," she thought to herself before popping up from her cover.
"It's not much of a game Vester if the dealer is allowed to stack the deck," she retorted and threw the the makeshift projectile with the intent of knocking the communicator out of his hand letting it smash on the ground at his feet.

The well aimed rock struck the communicator. It escaped Vester's grip and bounced along the ground until it fell off the side of the building. "Since you took my arena from me, why don't we make a new one?" Vector raised his handgun, not at Millie but at a fuel cell next to the force field generator Millie had used. He fired. When the dust cleared, Vester stood at the edge of the hole and saw it had blasted a hole all the way down to the 11th floor. Vester grinned and jumped down after her.
