5-7-7-8, Dante hurried along the halls, trying not to show his excitement mingled with relief. 5-7-7-8. We've got the first step; we did it!
"The codes change each morning, Dante." The voice startled him as he rounded a corner. The young man's feet nearly slid on the tile floor as he struggled not to run into the technician from the Game Room.
"L-Linda?!" Dante knew he would come up with a cover story, the perfect alibi that could keep her off the trail of the heist. "What are you doing here?"
She glowered at him a moment. "I'm one of the Lead Security Officers of this complex." The older woman's mouth spread into a snort of a laugh. "You thought I sat at that simulator all day, waiting for more tributes?" Dante's mind was struggling to brew up an excuse. That avox is my girlfriend? I have a deep love of forbidden elevators?
"I'll save you the trouble of lying, Dante. I know you were watching for the codes; we have cameras everywhere in here. Think I didn't notice you spending time watching more Hunger Games in a certain hallway, when you spent all day in the media room?" She playfully punched his arm.
"Smarter tribs than you have tried to get out; but we've been at this a long time." Her words softened. "You have a great mind for these Games! Go on back to the tribute center, and none of this ever happened. No sense losing your head before you have a chance to use it."
Dante was at a loss for words; he knew that his friends would never accept this. Maybe there's another way up to Lombard's rooms... Not trusting himself to speak, Dante began walking back toward the loading docks.
"Oh, and Tri-, er, Dante." Her tone was casual as the young man turned back. She tossed a emerald colored box toward the tribute, who awkwardly spun around to catch it.
"Capital Greens..." Breathed Dante, noticing the precisely torn edge of the top. "But how... and how?"
The older woman laughed. "Like I said; camera's everywhere. Just don't let it slip that you came across those; I'm sure Vester will be missing them." Linda's eyes twinkled as she turned away. "Don't forget Dante;" Her voice echoed from the hallway. "You tribs may have allies outside the arena too."
[OOC, Didn't plan to cop-out on the heist, but the actual Games are starting soon, and I wanted to give this some closure beforehand. Thanks for understanding!]
