Gwen walked in and immediately collapsed on the couch. What a night. What to do? She hoped Cal would show up soon.

Not too long after, Cal walks through the door, finding Gwen collapsed. He smiles, noting the trend of the night.
"You look comfortable. How was your evening?"

"This couch is heaven. It was interesting to say the least. Sounds like Millie has a plan. I'm curious about it. I think it's an okay idea. A lot rides on things on her end, though. How was your evening?" Gwen patted the space next to her, "Join the couch of softness."

Cal grins, strides on over to the waiting space. As he lays out he puts an arm around her, face to face.
"You weren't lying. There's nothing that would make me leave this couch."

"Seriously, though." Cal was so close Gwen couldn't help but kiss him. "So, seriously, though. Anything happen? What do you think about the stuff with Millie?"

Cal gingering returned her kisses, letting out a positive sigh. "I think Millie has the right idea. I'm in, whether they like it or not." He looks away, taking a deep breath. "There's something I need to tell you. I'd rather you hear it from me than through gossip." He moves to Gwen's ear. "I'm a peacekeeper, and I want to get the hell out of here."

"Thanks for telling me. I suspected for a while. Do you really not know anything as to why they put you guys in here?"

"I swear, it was only one time." He places his head back down, moving his mouth to her neck, leaving small kisses. "Nothing. My assignment was to enter as a tribute. I've heard nothing since. It's almost like they've made the announcement just to sew distrust between us." Pausing, he returns to face her. "Your question is leading, means to assume you're not a peacekeeper as well. Who were you before all this?"
He rests his head on the couch, today's events were beginning to take its toll. He smiles. "How will we spend our last night alive?"

As Vester's announcement plays in their room, Cal doesn't move. He looks into Gwen's eyes, growing focused.
"Is this where we part ways? Are we safe together? I understand if this is it."
He draws his face within inches of hers, awaiting her response.

It was hard to pay attention to what Cal was saying when he was kissing her neck like that. "I wasn't anyone important. I was an informant for a gang in my town. Both my parents had died in a cave-in so I had to make money somehow.'
Gwen grinned and was about to respond to how they should spend their last night when a strange voice sounded on the speakers. Quickly followed by Vester making an announcement about how they were on lockdown. She turned to Cal. This is indeed where they would part ways. She wasn't sure if she was ready for this.
"It would be safer to go with our respective alliances. Less people means less of a chance of getting caught. That is, if we get to them."

Cal frowns, looking down at his feet. That's only part of it.
"The alliances don't matter now. I can't go with you, or back to my group. I'll put either one in danger."
He embraces Gwen, giving her a deep kiss.
"Please, stay alive. I'll do what I can to protect you. I wish we had more time..."

Gwen was breathless from the kiss. She understood what he had to do. "You don't go dying either. Where will you go?"

Cal smiles, wishing he had more answers for her.
"I don't know yet, but with luck, as far away from you as I can."
He puts his head against hers, drinking in her warmth, her smell at least one last time.
"Do you think we could have had this, back in District 12, if we hadn't been picked?"

Gwen found herself fighting tears. "I would like to think so. Realistically? My gang would have beaten you black and blue if you came around." She took in his closeness for the last time. It was nice to know what it felt like to live. She had grown to rather like it.

Cal saw the tears welling up in Gwen's eyes, spreads to him. He laughs, enjoying their last moments together.
"Probably yeah, so let's call this our silver lining." He sits up, not letting his gaze leave hers.
"Take another listen to the song I played before getting the hell out of here. It might make a lot more sense now."
He kisses her gently on the lips.
"I love you, Gwen. Thank you."

OOC: I figure your next post will probably be the last, Cal can leave for the garden after that (I know that doesn't make as much sense, making it up as I go along). Timeline-wise, I think this happened just as the alarms sounded, but before the Back Kitchen meeting.

(OOC: Sounds good to me.)
Gwen stood, stunned, "I love you, too."
Maybe she would take another listen to the song.

Cal smiles, hoping this isn't really the last time they'd see each other. He walks towards the door, stops short and takes a deep breath.
"Do me a favor. Look after Wren for me. He might get on your nerves, but you'd be hard pressed to find someone with a bigger heart."
With that, he strides out into the night. The rose garden seemed as good a place as any other.
