Thomas had meandered about checking out the other tributes. He was surprised how many tributes had carelessly bled their hands. He thought to himself "Wren is a talented spy, with some special skills.... Dante is a decent fighter as well, but stronger in tactics. Valeria is about as good as either of them at attacking. Gwendolyn is a lousy shot... at least with throwing knives". How curious... he thought. Everyone showing what they could and could not do. Thomas wasn't about to lay his hand on the table. Anyone who wanted to know what he was about would have to get to know him.
But he figured people must assume that he knew how to survive, being from district nine... he was no stranger to scavenging. As he walked further into the training room, he saw that the room was garnished with only a single stainless steal table, with a platter on top. He lifted up the lid of the platter.
"Naw man!" he shouted as he jumped back from a pile of rancid meat. In the corner of his eye he saw a timer counting down from 20. "What the hell?" he thought. He figured he had 20 seconds to eat the spoiled meat.
""OH kay. I see how it is. You bring the poor kid to the Capitol and make him eat the same shit he was forced to eat at home. I mean.., if that's how you wanna play it." He grabbed the steak and ate it with his bare hands, finishing just as the clock struck 1.
Just then, a trainer approached Thomas. "What the bloody hell was that?" she exclaimed.
"Well I passed didn't I?" he grabbed his stomach as it turned over.
"That wasn't a challenge! Tom from janitorial just forgot to clean up his lunch from the other day... we weren't going to even use this room. The timer's broken! It just keeps counting down from 20 and resetting."
Thomas brought his palm swiftly to his forehead.
