"What is this place?" Dante's footsteps echoed off the walls of the immense training room. "It wasn't shown during the Behind-The-Games broadcast last year."
The peacekeeper beamed as they walked toward a peculiar stone bench in the center of the room. "This is the Capitol's new sparring arena! It's a masterpiece that uses all the simulation technology ever conceived. Including that suit you're wearing." The tall man gestured for Dante to sit as he called upwards to a control booth. "Let's show 'em how this works."
Dante sat on the cold, rough stone a moment, before falling backwards! Did the bench disappear?! He thought. But what came from his mouth was: "WuHAA!"
The fall would have left him with an embarrassing bruise, had he not felt the form-fitting suit he was wearing levitate a moment before gently lowering the tribute to the ground.
"Magnets and holograms, kid!" Dante had never seen a happier peacekeeper than the one who was helping him back to his feet. "The suit works with a magnetic system to levitate its wearer along the holograms." He gestured toward the control booth; and a flight of stairs shimmered into existence before them.
After a nervous moment testing his footing on the stairs, Dante was amazed to discover he could walk up the stairs; and even hold onto its thick steel railing! "This is incredible!" He yelled.
"Sure is," Beamed the peacekeeper, as Dante climbed to the top of the steps. "All right, Gio." He called to the control booth. "Turn off the stairs!"
"No, wait!" Yelped Dante, scrambling down the flight toward the hysterically laughing peacekeeper.
"Relax! You can't be hurt here, Kid. The suit keeps you from falling, stops anyone from actually hitting you and the weapons are all holograms given real 'weight' by the magnets around the simulator." He gestured back up to the control room. "Hey, Gio. I'm going to round up some sparring partners for our trainee, here. Let's put some weapon packs in random places, and change the environment to new random one every five minutes."
"You've got it, sir." Gio's voice boomed from the surrounding speaker system.
"Can I get a weapon, please?" Asked Dante nervously as the holographic walls of a castle interior began to form around him.
The peacekeeper scoffed and turned towards the training room's entrance. "Is that how you'll ask for one in the arena, Kid?"
(OOC: This is just for fun/training and combat in the arena will probably be very different. This is about flavoring the story.)
(The rules: Players sparring can attack up to 5 times total. Anyone can attack another tribute using their attack bonus. A roll of 5+ is a successful attack. If a tribute is hit 4 times, their suit locks up and they're levitated out of the training room.)
