BASIC INFORMATION
Name: Wallace Barker
District: 16
Age: 14
Allegiance: Tribute
Backstory:
Wallace is a young man from district 6. When he was growing up his father worked as a mechanic for the trains and hovercraft for the capitol. Because of this his family, including his mother and two younger brothers Alec and Daniel, lived in relatively decent condition. When Wallace turned 8, his younger brother Alec died to a disease that the doctor couldn't identify. This sent his mother into a spiraling depression that no one could shake her from. Wallace would go to school, only to return home to his mother still lying in her bed staring with bloodshot eyes toward the wall. Wallace learned to cook with the little they had from then on, making sure there were meals for his father and his remaining brother Daniel. Wallace tried to get his mother to eat, but she would always just stare at the wall as the food would dribble down her chin. One day when Wallace was 9 he returned home to find his mother lying still in her bed as normal. When he brought her food he dropped the tray onto the floor and began to shake her shoulders vigorously. When Wallace's father came home hours later from his work he found the young man curled up next to his mother with the same blank look she used to wear. It turned out that after Alec's death Wallace's mother had turned to morphling to numb her crippling depression. She had overdosed and died as soon as her children had left for school. Wallace assumed the depressive state that his mother normally upheld, refusing to leave her old bed, even for the lackluster funeral. Soon the school notified that peacekeeper action would be taken if Wallace did not return to his classes. His father forced him to return to school after that, but not before having a long talk with him. "I can't do this alone Wallace." His father said kneeling next to his bed, tears in his eyes. "I lost yer mum, and Daniel is still too little to understand, but you do. We ain't got nobody but each other, and us guys have to stick together now". Wallace understood, and he returned to his classes willfully after that, his father no longer needed to walk him to the schoolhouse. When Wallace turned 11 his father took him to where he worked; a large hanger on the edge of the district by a small airfield. Wallace gasped in imaginative wonder for the first time since his mother died as a hovercraft soared over his head and through the air into the distance. From that day onward Wallace began working with his father, learning the inner workings of hovercraft and the trains that ran through the country of Panem. Over the next few years Wallace avoided being chosen for the hunger games, barely even watching when they were mandated viewing, he was too busy imagining the wondrous things he could create. Wallace had just turned 14, three weeks before the reaping, when he was chosen.
Personality:
Wallace is a bit standoffish, preferring to work alone rather than with strangers. He has a supreme confidence in his own ability to sort out mechanical and mathematical problems, and has an eye for puzzles. If someone proves competent enough Wallace might take notice and become slightly competitive in his actions more so than in verbal aggression. Wallace HATES drugs of any kind, including alcohol, he will be physically repulsed by anybody who indulges themselves with them. He will refuse morphling vehemently even if it is offered medically. Because of this Wallace avoids being hurt whenever possible, and is incredibly cautious and methodical in his decisions. Wallace does not like peace keepers or any kind of rules that force him to go and be anywhere that he doesn't want to be. He has a soft spot for animals, but will eat them when necessary.
