Tristan's Training Day 1

Seeing the previous Hunger Games in the media library had given Tristan a new approach to training. He approached a technician standing by to operate a holographic combat training center and explained his request.

The technician shrugged as he changed the AI's programming pattern. Tristan moved to stand in the center of the huge combat training area.

Holographic teens began appearing at his sides, spreading out into a circle around him until 23 other tributes stood amongst projected backpacks, weapons and tools. After a brief countdown, the AI teens began a maelstrom of screams and movement. To his left a young boy attacked an older tribute, stabbing her from behind. Across from his vantage point, a group of three tributes collected backpacks together; quickly killing anyone that approached.

Some tributes grabbed a weapon or bag and ran, quickly disappearing past the range of the holographic projection machines.

In four minutes the simulation had ended, Tristan shuddered inwardly at the realistic violence before him and tried to remember how none of it was real. 

'Though in time, it will be.' He thought, approaching the technician. 'Think there were...

"Nine dead, four moved as a group to the west with four bags and an axe.

Five scattered to the east and north; probably on their own. A big guy headed south after he grabbed a set of throwing knives.

Four have been left in the cornucopia, with at least two swords, a bow and two bags of supplies."

Checking off the simulation's records, the technician seemed amazed that Tristan had perfectly kept track of the carnage within the simulated arena.

"Waitasec," frowned the technician. "Where'd the last one go? You only added up to twenty-three."

Tristan struggled not to laugh as he held a finger up to his own chest.

"Oh, right." Laughed the Capitol programmer. "Lemme tweak the AI some more, see if you can do that again!"
