Mave sat near the entrance to the public training area, her eyes flitting from station to station as the other tributes proved their skills. She'd been sitting here without engaging for at least the last 45 minutes, but she still hadn't moved. She'd hoped maybe there'd be a private area to practice in but now she realized how naive that was. It wasn't that she was scared of revealing her strengths and weaknesses, she just had never been in such a competitive atmosphere before and couldn't get over the nervousness that held her in place. Instead, she scanned the room, landing yet again on the Stealth practice area and the robotic automaton that you could practice with. She knew there had to be some sort of way to get around its laser-sharp sensors. Finally, she noticed it. A light, nearly invisible seam running vertically down the length of one side of the "face". That had to be it, she thought. That's what you have to avoid. It's built like a real human, who can only look in one direction at a time. You just have to figure out what that direction is. She stared at it, watching and confirming her theory over the next thirty minutes until her eyes were dry and her legs cramped from squatting in one corner. Finally, she stretched out and made her way hesitantly to the combat area, practicing a few of her close-range combat skills on a few pieces of a equipment. She was stronger than she anticipated and performed well on her own. Soon after she started, it was time to leave. She kicked herself for not getting herself moving faster. Oh well, she thought, maybe her hour and a half perch in the corner was intimidating in some way. She had to hope so.
