Demetri dropped to the pavement, but not before Mouth, and Captain Stable were thoroughly dead, Demetri had made sure of that. His aim was as true as it had been in the training center and each bullet found its mark in the necks of his opponents. Though bloodied and weakened, Demetri had walked back into the fray in the name of vengeance. He could at least die knowing that everyone who had wronged him had met their rightful end.
"You see? I always keep my promises Mouth!" Demetri yelled across the Market at Mouth's limp body. "You still feeling smug!?"
Demetri rolled over onto his back, the blood poured out of his sides. Through blurred vision he could see the other members of the Phoenix Accord around him.
"All right let's get this dying thing over with. Chatty, you're annoying as fuck, but you're the glue that holds the rest of these annoying fucks together. Blue, you're the second baddest ass in Panem and my only regret in life is not getting to see your tits. And you (he looks to Gwendolyn) I can't believe I never gave you a nickname. You're a hell of a drinking buddy, and I love how you always keep your priorities. Here's to living life, Sexfiend. If anyone sees Freshman, tell him he's an okay person. And thanks for everything, Career. If we ever got out of here I would've married your beautiful ass. See ya later, suckers."
Demetri dies.

Val had seen death before but usually people deserved it.
...usually.
She had only met him last week but truth be told she respected him more than almost anyone she had ever met.
"Well," she mumbled turning back to the other tributes, "we can't just leave him laying here. We need to give him some sort of burial."
"And him too," she said pointing to Dante's body, "He may have been less than honest with us but he was still our friend in a way. He never once attacked any of us."
She frowned, "For what its worth he carried out his duties as a peacekeeper and as our friend in the only way he knew how."
"It took courage to stand by the promise not to hurt your friends, she clutched the paper in her pocket with his signature on it, "Even knowing that it might lead to your own death. I'm a peacekeeper and you all know that. No matter how much I help you and defend us ultimately if you win I die. That's the nature of revolutions. I am prepared to make that sacrifice and in his own way so was he."
"Sadly..." she finished, "it ultimately has to lead to this." Val felt her own mortality in that moment.
"So the least we can do is give them both a hero's burial..."

Holly joined Valeria and took her hand quietly.
"Well said. What do you have in mind?"

Wren felt like an outsider, having been an alcove kid rather than a loading dock member. But...he'd built up a lot of respect for Demetri recently. He had admired Dante as well during training, but ultimately felt he was doing the right thing for his team by removing him from the situation.
"Hey guys...I know I'm not in your little contract group or whatever, but I'm really sorry for both of your losses...I'm sorry for being partially responsible." Wren kicked at the dirt. "I uh...I just felt the accord had been betrayed and when I knew he was hacking for the other side I just decided he was an enemy. And you guys seemed to want him gone, so I thought I'd help out...I'm sorry."
Wren placed a handful of pathetic wilted peonies on the ground near the two boys' bodies. "Sorry, this was the best I could do. This place isn't in great shape..." Wren realized neither boy's eyes had been closed, so he bent down and gently closed their eyes, allowing them to finally rest.
Wren turned back to the girls. "If I see you around again, I'd be happy to work with you all some more."
