She thrust the spear towards the first target. The spear grazed the side of it and she lost grip of it with her left hand but managed to keep it from completely leaving her control. Realizing that she was trembling, Reese set the spear on the ground and began stretching.
"Just getting warmed up, no big deal, we got this." She told herself as she reached her arms to the ceiling and then back down to the ground. "Practice is what this will take, so practice is what we'll do." She reassured herself noticing that many of the other tributes were having a much easier time than she was.
Standing up straight once again she pulled the spear up off the ground and bent her knees this time not standing quite so stiffly. More limber once again she tried to strike out at the targets.

This wasn't working. Maybe the spear is too familiar, perhaps trying something completely alien to her would work better.
Glancing around she saw something which seemingly nobody had touched. A blowdart? Reese was seriously unsure about what kind of damage she could do with a blowdart.
As Reese looked over her shoulder she realized that her mentor Joanna was approaching her at a brisk pace. "Here let me show you. Breathe in and focus on your target. Hold the tube straight out from your mouth rather than at an angle and be sure that you don't hold it too tight; otherwise the tube will warp and the dart will not fly straight when you fire it. When you blow be sure that it is one sharp and quick action."
Joanna fired a dart at a silhouette target hitting it in the shoulder and the rubber figure barely seemed to shudder. Reese had her doubts, "Okay so you hit the target but then what? That guy over there from district 2, he hits me with a spear and I'm gonna get laid out."
"Reese listen, it's not about that. You can use this and still stay hidden, if you miss they'll be none the wiser. When you aim, be sure to target an area where they are exposed, preferably so you are making contact with the skin. Make contact with the dart and it will deliver a toxin. You're talking about getting laid out, what do you think will happen when they have that coursing through their veins?" She spoke so firmly and confidently, Joanna had faith in her and thought that she could do this. That meant that she could do this right?
Joanna shoved the tube into her hand firmly. "Now take a shot, and if you miss don't let it get to you, this is about consistency."
What Joanna said made sense, you didn't have to hack somebody's arm off in order to deliver a killing blow. "Alright." She put the tube to her mouth and focused on the rubber manikin before releasing a quick burst of air.

Demetri watched Holly nail 5 out of 5 targets. His jaw dropped.
"Damn! Did you see that?" He said, nudging Reese with his elbow. "Her butt's got this nice jiggle every time she throws."
Demetri picked up a handful of spears and with one motion heaved them all at the targets.

Demetri laughed "Haha! Guess I'm a little distracted. Got my eye on another prize." He winked at Reese.
It seemed half of the tributes were training hard and the other half was showing off. Neither seemed particularly beneficial to Demetri. You couldn't learn a new skill in a day and showing off just gives away your element of surprise. He looked around the gym for more weapons he could throw in large quantities. He picked up three shurikens and held all of them between his fingers.
"Never tried this before," he grinned and whipped them at the targets.

Two of the shurikens hit the center of the targets and one caught the shoulder of a third mannequin.
Demetri made three cannon sounds, "Boom! Boom! Boom! Yeah baby, that's how it's DONE. Just try and come at me. I'll take you all down in one fell swoop!"
He knew it was a lucky shot, but man that was pretty cool (though he wished he got it on the first try). He was fired up and ready to take some tributes down.

"Go big or go home eh Demetri? Those spears might not do much damage with a throw like that but bet you could still scare manage to scare someone off at least! You're a big dude though and I know I definitely don't want those spears flying my direction if I have a choice."
"Scare Holly off though and at least you'll have a good view as she runs away!" Giving him a wink.

Eloise saw Reese picking up a blow dart. She had never thought of using a weapon without being seen. Everything else seemed like it could lead to a confrontation, but this? She had to try it.
Target practice with a blow dart (+1 attack) DdqTpj9j1d8+1
Interesting. She liked the idea, but knew that there was no way to know what type of weapon she would be able to get her hands on during the games. Was there anything other than weapons she could train on? It seemed like Holly knew more about how to be prepared....1d8+1

She'd been gone from the training room for awhile in an effort to let what Joanna had taught her earlier fully sink in. However, not wanting to forget it either Reese returned to the practice range and grabbed another blow dart gun from the table where they'd been placed. There were facility staff coming and going occasionally making sure that everything was in its place but she was still sure to wipe off the mouth piece of the tube just in case they'd been sitting out there all day.
She mentally went through the posture and technique advice that Joanna had shown her. "Let's give this another shot shall we..."
She breathed in smoothly and let a shot fly from the tube (+1 attack) mnr1BQik1d8+11d8+1

(OOC: wupps that wasn't supposed to be +1, realized as soon as I'd hit submit)
"Did I really just shoot myself in the finger?" she muttered. So fixated on trying to remember what Joanna had shown her, somehow her finger had been resting on the edge of the tube as she blew on it. Indeed her ring finger was bleeding, and badly at that! She quickly put her hand into her pocket hoping that nobody had noticed but afraid that it might have already been too late.
An attendant walked up. "Is something wrong? You were about to begin practicing weren't you? Do you require assistance? I can find your mentor if you need and they can show you the proper methods."
What was with all the questions. "Uh no, I just felt really strange when I put that up to my mouth just now. I don't think anyone cleaned it off since the last time it was used, maybe one of you should do that?" Noticing a hint of crimson on the other end, "Actually, on second thought , I think you should clean both ends of it pretty thoroughly... or maybe even throw it out?... I've gotta go take care of something."
Reese briskly walked towards the nearest door.
"Hey miss, you... you left your bag just sitting here." The attendant cried out after her.
Just keep walking and don't look back.

Minerva had felt a little nervous when she first arrived in the weapons arena. She didn't even know which one to pick up. Aside from her father teaching her how to use batons when she was younger (and teaching was putting it graciously), she barely knew what half these things were. She saw Wren trying with a spear, and every few times the boy would just barely manage to land a hit. With a bow and arrow he even seemed embarrassing. Seeing him fail gave her a bit more confidence. She walked up next to him and picked up a bow.
"Don't worry, it's my first time even holding one of these," she said, trying to sound more confident than she felt. She gripped the bow, stuck an arrow to the string, and then released. A2jLI9Mf1d81d8

The arrow stuck true into the bullseye. A few of the trainers were staring at her, a few with their mouths wide open, a few shaking their head as though she was lying when she said that she had never done this before. She shrugged, "Lucky try I guess." She stifled a laugh as she noticed that the blue haired girl had managed to somehow shoot herself in the finger. Minerva whispered to her "Sorry, I would give you advice, but I really have no idea what I'm doing, I just improvise with style."
She went and picked up a cudgel. This was the closest thing to the sticks her father had let her handle when she was younger. 6xtlykHS1d8

She hit the wooden dummy in every pressure point she could remember her father teaching her. It wasn't as good as he was used to, and she was sure that she wouldn't hear the end of it, if he was watching, but it felt good to let out some steam. The bow and arrow just felt too separate. Others were starting to look at her as though she was something, and she realized numbly that she probably seemed like a threat. A perfect hit with the arrow, decent skills with a staff... who did they think she was.
A little scared at herself, she picked up a sheath of knives, balanced for stabbing and throwing. Whether she impressed them again, or failed miserably... it was better than the awkwardness of having everyone watch. MwAZRR9S1d81d8

She tried to twirl a knife around her finger, but ended up throwing it directly at Demetri, who had just managed to throw his own three sharp objects and land them perfectly... It thudded above his head, and she hoped he didn't notice. In her panic she threw the other two she was holding upwards and fell on her back, one landed directly next to her hand, sticking into the ground with a thud, and the other hit her in the head... luckily handle side down.
Well... she definitely fudged that one.

Cal slowly walked into the expansive room, his eyes falling upon the extensive array of weaponry. Quickly moving past the larger weapons, he found a large set of knives.
"Alright, guess we'll start small."
Tucking a handful of knives into a material pouch, Cal moved towards a target dummy paced five meters away. Keeping the pouch strapped over one arm, he drew one knife, took a deep breath and threw it forward.

The knife flew a faint whistle, landing square above where the dummy's collarbone should be.
Attempting to hold back his surprise, Cal moved forward to retrieve his first attempt. After a firm tug, the knife was returned to the pouch as he retook his original position.
Raising another knife above his shoulder, he attempts to replicate the same action that bade such success before.

The knife tumbled to the left in mid-flight, grazing the right shoulder of the target before clattering to the ground.
As Cal went to retrieve the fallen knife, he stopped to regard the target dummy. The color from his face drained as his pupils contracted, his hand reached for a knife in the pouch.
"Assholes..." he muttered, his hand streaking out of the pouch and into the dummy's chest.

The knife struck the dummy in the shoulder, ending its momentum abruptly. Cal's hand continued forward, the bottom of his palm striking the dummy while his knuckles nicked the edge of the blade.
"Shit. Of course..."
Bringing his fingers to his lips, he sucked the thin trickle of blood as dry as he could manage. With his other hand he awkwardly retrieved both knives and returned the set to its starting position.
Once everything was back in its place, Cal took in his surroundings. As the realization of what a fool he must have looked, he briskly marched out of the room after a deep breath.
