Al beckoned his District mate over after their reunion with Olive. He knew he was on borrowed time and there was no point in putting off his end any longer. Once she came over, he really just started to ramble a bit.
"Few things. One, I know what went down back in that other tower was kinda weird. But Jaf, you are my friend. We've been together since the beginning and really, nothing's gonna change about that. In life or death and everything in between. Which brings me to my next point." "As your friend. I need to ask you this." He took one of her hands in his own. "I'm going to die here, I know that. And oddly enough, I'm kind of at peace with it. This is the first time I've felt free...which is odd because we're literally locked in a death arena. But hey, I'm getting off topic. The point is, I'm not going to make it past this level and I know that. But I'd rather you get the sponsor points for my kill than Ingrid or anyone else not getting them at all. Use my bow if you need it." He handed over the bow he had put together when they were in the tower with Ox and Arnie. Through the dragon attacks and the bat fiasco it was a little worse for wear but it was still together.
"This is the last thing I can give you."

Al sensed hesitation from his District partner. Slowly he set the bow down by her, pushing it towards her before taking his hand back, giving up his only weapon. He wrapped his arms around his knees and smiled weakly before taking her hand again. "I'm not going to counterattack you. I'm asking you to do this."
"Look at me, Jaf. I'm practically dead anyway. I've known that since we met..and I mean hey, Elite Eight's not bad and at least we stuck together. The first time we met, you called me selfish. Which was one hundred percent true. But now...I can't be that way anymore. It's not about me, it's about you. This is the last thing I can give you, a last push to help you win and you know, potentially get out of here alive. Better you than me, I always thought if one of us made it through, it was going to be you. So I'm giving you my life." He let go of her hand and looked at her with eyes that conveyed a soft seriousness.
"You asked me in the hotel room if you can count on me. Hopefully this is enough of an answer for you."

Tears streamed down Jaffe's face as she listened to Alistair. Her partner was dying in front of her and there was little she could do. He had been pouty and morose when they first met, but the arena had turned him into a man of kindness and prudence.
She realized now how the thought had entered his mind. It was only yesterday that she had told Seth she would kill him out of mercy, the idea... her idea had poisoned Alistair. Seth was an unknown boy from a district but Alistair...
"Please Alistair, I don't care that you don't like me... in that way. Don't leave me now," she begged as his slid the crossbow towards her.

He caught his District partner and pulled her into a hug. That action certainly wouldn't help prepare her for what was to happen, but it felt like something he had to do. Call it his brotherly instincts. Whatever. After a minute, he pulled away and gave her a tired smile. "I'm ready, Jaf. I'm ready to die. And you're gonna keep going, for my sake. And this is corny as shit, but I'll be there in some cosmic after-life shit. Who knows? Maybe I'll be a tree. But I don't want to see you on the other side for a very long time, you hear?"
It was tough for him to say, the words were getting caught in his throat as he reassured her. He wasn't afraid of dying, but he was worried about what would happen when he was gone.

Jaffe slapped Alistair in the face. "Get your shit together, the shelter is right behind me you melodramatic turd," she said pointing over to the spot. "We need to solve the riddle and get the food, and pray that Ingrid stays dead."

When she slapped him across the face, his hand flew up to cover the stinging with a tired but very amused look. "Oh my god you just slapped you. You've totally wanted to do that since day 1 and I'm gonna be honest, a little proud that you did it. But look." He clapped his hands down on her shoulders.
"I'm nothing if not a realist. You're going to need those points a lot more than you'll need me. Think this all the way through."

"There's a lot of factors going on right now food, Ingrid, and our team. But you're making things way more difficult, you ass-hat! I might just kill you out of frustration! For the next couple of hours though can you pull yourself together? Besides maybe I need you dead next round!" she laughed.

Still stunned, he turned and crawled under the shelter with an amused face, grabbing his bow on the way.
"Okay, fine. I tend not to argue with crazy people welding guns. But Jaffie. Being serious for a second. I meant it. When the time comes, I'm ready to die." He turned to give her a stern and serious look, just to make his point known.

"I know..." she growled frustrated.
