Arnie looked at the bat mutation that was perched on the ceiling with its full attention fixed on the group. This was no good. Of all the things Arnie ever had to do, Stealth was not one of them, in fact, Arnie couldn't keep quiet if he tried. Arnie figured though that if the bat were to be knocked away no one would have to deal with it so he came up with an idea to pitch to the group.
"Say, I know we havent had the longest time to know each other yet, but I think it might be in our best interests if we shot that thing down. Ox and I both have some combat skills and I think we could put that crossbow to use."
Arnie touched the sickle strapped to his back before he continued.
"If I thought I could hit it with this I would try. You think we might be able to work out a temporary swap so that we could pass that crossbow around to kill this beast? When it's all said and done we could swap back. What do you say, swap my sickle for the crossbow for now?"
Arnie hoped that his offer would be accepted because the last thing Arnie wanted to do was try to fumble his way past the bat in silence.

Al suddenly realized what Arnie was saying and turned to the other tribute with a wary look, his grip tightening on the bow to protect himself. "I understand what you're saying, man. But I gotta be completely honest, I'm not sure I trust you. What reason do I have to do this? I'm a little guy with almost no combat skills to speak of, this weapon's all I've got. If you can convince me to trust you, then I'll do it." That whole big alliance scared the shit out of him and he wasn't going to hand over his only weapon without real convincing.

Arnie understood where Alistair was coming , "I know you have reservations about this. It's a bit uncomfortable I'm sure, but I promise you I have no interest in killing you. I grew up on a farm working with so I learned early that every tool has its purpose. This sickle works well to harvest grain but it's not real good for taking out a bat on a ceiling. That crossbow would be a pain in the ass to use to harvest grain but it works great to shoot at a bat." Arnie knew he wasn't the most articulate, but actions speak louder than words so he unstrapped his sickle, walked forward a few feet and lodged the point in the dirt. Stepping back slowly Arnie smiled and started to talk again. "Now I'm unarmed, I just hope you believe me."

Ashton stood and walked towards Al, tapping his toes nervously. He had no idea about trusting Arnie...but at this point, what choice did they have? Ashton drew his knife, tapping his own shoulder with it. "And to help further that. I'll back you up. If Arnie--for whatever reason runs off with the crossbow which I don't imagine happening because I'm staring at his own weapon, I will try and get it back. But I think we've pretty well established that trying to tackle the bat on our own might not work." Ashton shrugged, "But I can't imagine I'll be needing to use it." Ashton twirled the knife while trying to communicate with Arnie to just go along with what he was saying to get the crossbow--they needed that shot. And they all had to reassure Al.
"Because--none of us really want to be bitten by that thing, we'll catch rabies from it and that's no good."

Once Ashton had come forward to reassure him and offer backup should things go completely ass-backwards in the end, Al exhaled and looked back at Arnie. The other tribute had disarmed himself but something was still bugging him. Call it the lack of sleep or the heightened fear he'd experienced ever since the Reaping. Literally every warning bell in his head was going off about the entire situation..but if he gave them the bow and it somehow worked out for everyone, it wouldn't hurt him later on. People remember shit like that. Slowly, he pulled out the crossbow and held it out to Arnie.
"Well, I'm not a fighter, but I am a reasonable diplomat. Better that bat end up dead anyway, I'm terrified of those things. You've got a deal, man. I'm electing to trust you. Shoot that little bastard down. I'll meet you at the end."

Arnie sighed with relief as he took the offered crossbow in exchange for the scythe.
"Thanks, you won't regret it." Arnie checked it over and noticed the fix that Al had made that Arnie couldn't figure out.
"Looks a lot better than the last time I saw it."
