Ayla walked up to her hotel room, carrying her shoes. She couldn't believe how badly her heels had hurt her feet! The night had been pretty spectacular, despite the pain. Though she wasn't a fan of small talk, she had managed to talk with a sponsor, which could come in handy later. She had also gotten to dance with Seth, which was wonderful. She felt like they were really starting to become friends. She certainly felt more comfortable around him than anyone else in the games.
When she got into the room, she unzipped her dress, hung it up and let her slip serve as her night gown, she was exhausted. She plopped down on the couch in the common area and swung up her feet, taking up the whole couch. As much as she wanted to go to sleep, she wanted to talk with Seth before the training days began.

After changing out of his ridiculous floral suit, Seth peeked out into the common area to see if Ayla was still awake. He smiled when he saw she was still up and he went over to the couch to sit with her.
"Oh my god," seth sighed. He picked up Ayla's feet and squeezed onto the couch, putting her feet back down in his lap. "I don't think I've ever stood for so long! Not even when my legs worked well!"
Seth leaned back into the soft leather. "Would it be weird if I said I'm actually kind of having fun being part of the Hunger Games? I mean, not so much the crowds and cameras, but... you know?"

Ayla flashed her coy smile at Seth. "No it's not odd, this whole experience is bizarre, but exciting."
She hated to get down to business, but it was late and she wanted a concrete strategy for the training days. She grabbed Seth's hands and looked him dead in the eye. "Seth, do you want to be in an alliance with me? I know threw the idea around - but I'm officially proposing. I think we would make a good team."
She held her breath as she waited for an answer.

“Of course!” Seth said enthusiastically, squeezing Ayla’s hands back. He laced his fingers into hers. “I think we would work really well together.” His face flushed and he quickly added “…In an alliance, or… yeah.”
“We should train together during the skill session,” he said, quickly changing the subject. “I may not be very strong anymore, but I’m still a good fighter. I could show you some combat tactics and formations. I’ve also had stealth training for covert operations. Obviously running isn't really my thing so I'm going to stay clear of that station. Or maybe there’s something you’re really good at?”

Ayla was so releaved and so excited! Was Seth hinting at something more? She didn't know for sure, but she pressed on.
"Believe it or not, I'm pretty good at combat myself- I'd say it's my best strength. I spent a lot of time in district five street fighting with the boys. If we did practice combat- it would be to show off to the sponsors. What's our angle? Do we want to pick up a new skill or what? Do you have practice with survival skills? I don't at all, but I think that's very important."
She continued, "I also think we should find maybe two more tributes to bring into out alliance... Strength in numbers, you know? We had better start hardcore schmoozing. Any ideas of who you think would add to our alliance?"
Ayla took a deep breath, she was talking too much again.

“I had to learn some survival skills over the last year. My friend Erica supported me while I couldn’t walk, and then when I could they wouldn’t let me get a job because I couldn’t prove residence in Five. So to pay Erica back I spent days out in the woods hunting and gathering berries.”
“I think showing off combat might be a good strategy. I think it’s the only skill that’s beneficial to put on display because it’ll make people think twice before attacking two fighters.”
“I’ve only spoken to one other tribute, that quiet Kiki girl from Eight. It’s hard to tell if she’s trustworthy, but she looks strong. I also like the look of that Ox guy from Eleven. He’s brawny, but he seems smart and reserved, unlike those Career tributes. I guess what I’m looking for is a team that can stay together, no hotheaded rogues. They’ve got to follow orders and stick to the plan.”
“What do you think?”

"I agree. Let's steer clear if those career assholes. But we've got to put together a team that can beat them. Let's agree to show off our combat skills in the training center- maybe it will make people want to get to know us more."
"I don't want to jump in to anything too quickly, but at the same time there's not much time. We especially need someone with survival skills - I'm so glad to hear you have some practice in that area. "
Ayla headed out the door to the training center.

Ayla turned back quickly, reconsidering. She didn't want to disappoint Seth. But she needed to do what was best for her.
"Seth - I'm not sure what to do. I want to show off but I also want to better myself. If I show my combat skills- I'm sure I'll get a sponsor point, but I won't have learned anything new. I think I might fly low on the radar this time and try to earn a new skill- either athletics or survival, I'm not sure which."

"Hmm... If you're going to go that route, maybe doing some athletics training would round out our skill set the best since I'm not especially capable in that area either. Looking at these tribute rankings, I think I will still show my combat tactics to try and get myself out of last place. I figure we'll be able to build a team with a variety of skills so hopefully I won't even need to be agile or athletic in the arena. Plus, the odds of getting any better at a skill seem kind of low.

Ayla considered. He had a good point. It was unlikely that she would improve in any area- and if she showed off her combat skills, she was sure to win favor with the sponsors and intimidate the other players.
"You're right, we should show our strength. Let's train together and show these judges what we're made of!"
She headed at the door to the training arena.
