Nelson felt the bullet before he heard it, really. Felt it stab through his side before the ringing began in his ears. It was sharp but he didn't quite....get it until he felt himself slam into the ground on his knees. 'oh. look at that. I've been shot. again.' He looked at Harlie with wide eyes, "Well...aren't you just fucking delightful?" he managed to say. "So FUCKING delightful. I hope you get a lot of friends this way...fuck me, we saved your ass. JESUS. You're just such a--I CAN'T SAY IT BUT YOU KNOW. A LITTLE WARNING. AT LEAST MY BOYFRIEND WARNS ME BEFORE WE GO AT IT."
Nelson rolled on the ground, looking up at the sky. It was unnaturally blue, he thought. Do people notice these things when they die? The color of things...he also could smell the ocean. He knew he was nowhere near it...but he could still smell home. Was this someone dying people went through as well? Because Nelson was dying; he knew that for certain. He managed to look towards his companions who were all still standing by him. Which was....kind of the best thing, really. When his strength and health had started to take a turn for the worse and everyone left the Market, he was convinced that he was going to die alone. He looked to the four friends that were there, he knew he had to say something; it wasn't like he had an abundance of time to say anything else.
"Holly, Val, Wallace, Syd. You're all beautiful souls. If I had the chance, I would attempt to date all of you." he coughed, "But--hey. shit happens." He tried to keep eye contact as much as he could but his vision was beginning to blur, "I seriously adore the hell out of all of you. Even you Wallace, after you left me hanging with Sharlot. But she also went after you so--cut a bitch. Don't be afraid to fight, little man. You've got more strength than you think you do. Holly, I adore your gorgeous self and I remember you reassuring me two days ago when I thought THAT was the end. You decided that I was worth keeping around and helped secure me food, I don't forget that. Don't ever think I forgot that. You're a generous kind soul but you're also seriously badass. So--if anyone can make it through this thing, it's you. Syd, you're my district mate. We're tied together by our mutual hatred for fish and the feeling of seaweed between our toes. But you've also done a lot for a cause you initially weren't drafted for, you chose to run because it was what's right. No one can say a bad word about you or I'll rise up from my grave and beat them with the baton Lartius stole from me. And my dearest Val, you're the glue that's been holding this ragtag team together. I wanted to impress you since the first day I came to the Market. I'm just sorry I couldn't do more to help you. I know you'll be okay, because you've been organizing our shit--but I'm still sorry."
"I need you to tell Wren and Cal--but especially Wren, thank you. I was fully prepared to attack Cal the first day I met him but Wren convinced me to join the Accord. And--he changed everything. I just---thank him for me. Because of him---I'm not dying alone. I didn't feel alone. And I can't even begin to thank them. And you guys. For giving me that." Nelson closed his eyes, feeling sleepy and warm and knowing it was near the end, and he had to wrap this up. "I think---that if the Accord is still fighting, then we've got a chance. We'll always have a chance." And Nelson, being overly satisfied with ending on that, drifted away.
