"Oh, Val, thank god. I need my spirits lifted. Let's go find some food." Gwen sat in silence. She had seen conflicts like this and distrust ruin teams back at home. If anyone against them were to get a hint of the trust issues going on in this group, she was worried they could be exploited. She sighed. Everyone probably just needed space right now. Hopefully, tomorrow won't look so bad.
"So what's the total damage done on Deo for sure? Remember I got a hit on him and have one action left. I was planning on using it to search for the jabberjay, which I will do unless someone thinks another hit on Deo would be good."

Cal ducks his head back in the room real quick, uncertain if he'd be welcome. After a moment, he sighs and returns to the hallway. OOC: Wren's in bed, figure I jump in.
"We've dealt 5 damage so far to him. He's just ordered the gathered peacekeepers to attack Wren. Val, want to give that token a shot for the SMG reroll? A second shot at two damage can drive him to 7, then he can die by either an extra attack from Gwen or Lartius or Sentry guns from a failed hack on his part."

Lartius walked into the room. "Man, I'm gone for a day and everything goes to hell. Everyone ok?" I just have Cal and Wren in this whisper, because I don't know who still needs to know for their moves, but you two seemed the most concerned with my moves. I attacked Deo again and failed. So no additional damage from me unfortunately. Hopefully that doesn't ruin things too much.

Lartius sent a whisper to me and Wren, he missed his attack, I'm not sure if he has any actions left. We have two damage to go, not a lot of actions left. If it helps, Val, this is a much better use than what I spent my and Sharlot's tokens on, landing unarmed attacks against an NPC Peacekeeper."
OOC: Lartius, this whisper is to gwendolyn, holly, wren, valeria and yourself (lartiusselkirk).

Once Holly kicked the chair out, Sydney all but slumped into it. It had been a long, long day. At the end of it all, she was weaponless but hopefully protected among those in the Tower. However, those thought were compromised as she was still reeling from what Cal had said earlier about not trusting her. "It's sure been a fun day here today and I bet you all had a blast at the Market as well." "I understand it's hard to trust people here because, well, war and all that. But this kind of world is not one I want to continue with. I was in here during Day 4 and I watched a Peacekeeper shoot one of his own. That day I saw it didn't matter who we were or what allegiance we were born into, we were all targets. It didn't matter. You know how if you throw a stone at glass ceiling, it shatters? That was my broken ceiling. And in order to...change this. I have to die. And I'm becoming more and more okay with it because at least other kids after us won't have to go through this. But mortality's a weird thing to think about...so like you said, let's move on."

Wren glanced out the window of the control room. Damn. I hope Millie's alright. Wren had never really told her, but he'd looked up to her throughout training. She was probably the reason he felt so much responsibility for the Accord. If she was the coach, he felt like a team captain or mascot. He had a little sister-friend to look after, who had now gone rogue, and he had a liar to deal with from the alcove. He felt like he'd failed the team that never even formed. Then, when Millie shoved Holly and the other girls to Wren, he was hesitant but figured Millie knew best...he had to trust her. He shook his head of those memories and went into the bathroom to check out his condition. He noticed a pretty nasty black eye, then pulled his shirt open to reveal his scrawny pale chest and a large fist-shaped purple bruise on his sternum. He winced as he inhaled. Well...if this isn't karma for breaking that kid's rib, I dunno what is.... But, I've been through worse from a simple task of walking home from school. This isn't too bad...for a war.He headed back towards the dorm room and passed Cal. Their eyes met. He honestly wasn't sure what he was about to do, but he grabbed Cal's face in both hands. "You...Why?!...Ugh. Maybe this was my fault for being chatty and asserting myself as a leader openly. Maybe it was your fault. We'll never know. But don't try to be me. Being paranoid and reckless is MY job. YOU'RE supposed to keep me stable and be the big softy. I tried so hard to vouch for you with this group, and you get one day with them and let this mess happen? You'll have to do better. I expect Holly will want to talk to you." He slapped Cal's ass with his new baton and looked him over. "And you look hungry..." Wren frowned. "Maybe if anyone in there still trusts you, you could ask Val or Lartius if they have any food to spare before we move." Wren passed the control room. He noticed a small disc. "Hey Gwen, that song clip I talked about is still up here if you want to hear. This is what I played for Cal a few days ago..." Fight For YouWren entered the dorm room to find Syd sitting with a piece of paper in front of her. He leaned in over her shoulder and frowned. "Hrm. Well thank the GODS we've got that cleared up. Can we be productive again, please? At this point, I don't even care about apologies anymore." ooc: let me know if you want me to copy the text from that contract for Syd to read at any point.

Cal was at a loss for words. He didn't deserve Wren, as either a friend or lover. Before he could respond, before he could break down further, Wren had already had his say and left. After a few moments to himself, he found some emotional footing. He replied, knowing full well no one was listening.
"Thank you."
He followed Wren into the control room, where he found the lumberjack, Sydney and Holly all sitting together. If it had to be anyone, should be them. "I was so wrong, and I could have ruined everything for you all with what I pulled. I'm sorry for putting your lives at needless risk. I don't trust my thoughts at this point, half of me just wants to jump from this tower. But that's not my decision."
He looks between Holly, Sydney and Wren.
"So... What would you have me do?"

Wren shook his head at the ignorant suggestion. "Well...not jumping would be a start. That would just cause more emotional distress, which I could be wrong but I think we've ALL had quite enough of that. Whose idea was it to throw a bunch of hormonal, angsty teenagers in a war? That's complete shit. I, for one, am going to try and keep my cool from here on out. Maybe I just care too much about the Accord, but that's just who I am. I also probably care too much about you. I almost wish I was into girls, because Holly's pretty fucking stable. Sure, she spied on me, but she also didn't sleep with me and then spy on me like SOMEONE I know. But, we've moved past that. This is strike three, and I'm not even sure how many more I'm going to allow. Probably like seven, because I'm an idiot...I dunno. This love thing makes my everything hurt. Or maybe that was the fight with Deo..." Wren tried to laugh, but winced because it hurt his chest.
"And I already told you what I think. I'd have you eat something so you can be more productive in the coming days before you get paranoid again and get yourself killed. As much as I want to, I can't always watch your back. I expect you feel like shit, which you should, and I also expect you've learned from this. I'll let Holly handle this situation now, regarding you both."

Holly had been listening to everyone speak until now. Sydney's words surprised her. "I wouldn't call watching a friend die and being forced to orchestrate another's execution a blast, but it was certainly eventful. And now, Deo, my district mate had to go. This war is going to make me do a lot more things I'm not particularly proud of. But if the end result is peace in Panem and freedom, I can be proud of that." She looked at both Cal and Wren, fidgeting with the papers in her pocket. You are the messiest damn couple I've ever seen. Holly turned to Cal and opened her mouth to speak but stopped just short. Instead she pulled a piece of paper from her pocket, laying it on the table between them all.
"Syd, this is the contract we have all signed. You've proven yourself as far as I'm concerned and I admit I did doubt you. Cal was made a bit fearful when you seemed to be having many private conversations with Deo. His fears biased his delivery of information to us and became infectious. He is telling you the truth about our reaction though. None of us even mentioned hurting you based on a suspicion. We work as a group, when you agreed to work with us you were given the protection of the Accord on a conditional basis. Now, that those conditions are met you're one of us if you want to be. You would not have been harmed until betrayal was established, you've never been unsafe with us."
Holly smoothed the folded paper before her and turned it to face Sydney. Rummaging in her pockets she found a pen and placed it on the table.
"It's your choice, and if you think it's too much you can walk away from us safely today and go your own way. But if you want to join us, we'd welcome you."

"I guess you would see me as stable, but everyone has something going on. I guess being a Career I've trained to deal with these stresses rather differently than a lumberjack's experience would have." Holly looked to Cal and continued, "I know you love each other. But your relationship has implications for all of us. The mistrust and misunderstanding of yesterday nearly tore our group apart right after we'd all committed. You two need to work your issues out because this isn't just some schoolyard romance. Our lives are at stake and your petty dramas will endanger us." She sighed, still trying to decide how to move forward considering the events of the day. She looked out the window and saw Minerva headed off the grounds in the direction of the Market. Smart move, running is your best bet.Leaning into the others, she continued.
"Wren, I know you were wounded by Deo. I'm glad we made sure he was dead and can't hurt you any longer. It looks like Minerva is headed to the Market which is good, I was hoping she wouldn't head to the hospital which is I think where we should go next. We need to get you some morphling, Gwen too if we can. With any luck we won't have to deal with another Peacekeeper when we arrive but with a group as large as ours we should be able to take out one at each location and still get any supplies we need." She nodded to Sydney with a smile and added, "Our numbers seem to be growing, unlike theirs."
"Moving forward I think we should aim to take one known Peacekeeper down at each location if we can, provided it doesn't interfere with our survival needs."
Holly still wasn't sure how to deal with Cal. She was angry but it seemed he hadn't acted maliciously. Just dumb as fuck this round, still he seems sincere.
"Cal, you may not be looking for it but I forgive you. As much as I can at the moment. But you need to reexamine your role here. You're a smart guy, and I value what you bring to the group but after putting targets on my back and Wren's... I question your judgment. We've all talked about the need for communication I believe, coordinating our attacks is just as important as coordinating your role as a double agent here. Be more careful in the future. Because of your paranoia and behavior Val wasted her token, something precious to her. Moving forward, we're fine. I don't know if I trust you completely... But that's all I can offer you at the moment. If it wasn't for Wren, and everything else working out we wouldn't be. And I think you owe Val an apology." Leaning into the others, she continued.

From the doorway Holly could see a red light had turned on and begun to blink rapidly. "... deploy all of the game pods into the Capitol."Startled Holly rushed to the console. "What the fuck? Vester?" "...extremely dangerous and could harm civilians.." CRACKLE "...deploy those pods....Yes, sir."Only part of the message could be heard. In abandoning the Watchtower the workers must not have kept all communications towers active, but the emergency line seemed to be on backup power. Small miracles. Holly scowled digesting the new developments and turned to the others who had gathered behind her. "It seems the Games are to be held after all." ((ooc: I asked Vester if we would be able to overhear his conversation on the emergency line due to us being located in a watchtower, and it's function as a government security location and he said yes! so i assume, everyone here knows this IC, but Minerva would not know as she's left.))

Cal listened carefully as Holly made her offer to Sydney, he could feel a warmth within his chest. At least there's that.As Holly addressed Wren, Cal's guilt intensified, that warm feeling turning into a tight knot. He nods his head, agreeing with Sydney's assessment and suggested use of Peacebringers. As Holly began to address Cal, his eyes remained focused as his expression softened. He wasn't expecting any compassion, but was grateful for what was given, paired with fair and pointed criticism of his actions. At Holly's conclusion, he stood up straight, a sense of purpose supporting him.
"This is far more than I deserve, but thank you Holly. I will communicate with the group as we coordinate all actions, and seek out the Accord's opinion when assessing a situation. I'd still like to offer my services as a strategist if its welcome, advising rather than making the decisions, that's for us to agree upon together. And of course, as a fighter for the Rebellion."
His posture slacks as he thinks back to those he had wronged today.
"You're right, I'll talk to Val whenever she turns up. Wren, can we speak between the two of us soon? Public, private, whichever you'd like."

Syd was a little taken aback by Holly's response but she truthfully couldn't blame her, it had been a wild few days for all of them coming from the Market to here. "Nothing past this point will be a blast...unless we find a detonator somewhere which...would be wildly useful, if I'm honest." Sydney picked up the pen and read the paper with a quiet intensity, looking at the group in front of her and smirking. "This seems like as good of an idea as any and hey, at least at the end of the road I can at least die knowing that others will benefit." She signed her name down and handed her pen back to Holly. The announcement heard over the intercom made Sydney's eyes widen and her heart took off. "Oh shit, oh shit..." she took several deep breaths and looked out the window to confirm for herself what Vester had been saying. "It looks like this party only just got started."
