Cal perked up as Wren entered, glad he could finally join in the festivities. He froze up when he watched him, realizing he's distressed. Attempting to figure out what was wrong, he thought back over their conversations for the day, the start of the party, his own statements... Fuck...He got up from his seat, realizing what he had done. He walks out the door, following Wren behind. OOC: My actions are spent, and I'll post any updates I can as whispers. Wren should make a post about Vester's rule interpretation in a coming whisper. In the meantime, if you attempt an attack, report the results here. Can't be side tracked.

Gwen sighed and shook her head, "What has Cal gotten himself into?" She turns back to Val, "Well, that's our cue. Let's go find some, uh, food." Gwen grabs Val's hand and all but drags her out the room. "I still have two actions left, so let me know what's going on with the baton."

Realizing he left the room without saying anything, Cal pops his head back in before anyone else leaves. "I'm sorry guys... this is important. Please don't have this define the evening, I hope you all had fun, or will continue to." With that he left the room. "Gwen, read up on my previous whispers, I've missed my unarmed attacks and we need all the help we can get with taking Deo out. We can't rely on Lartius attacking again, and even with Sydney's arrows hitting we'd be short on damage. Commit your remaining actions to attacking Deo." "Gwen, we can't pass the baton for usage, so any attack with have to be done unarmed or whatever you have on hand. If you could attempt an attack on Deo, I'd appreciate it. For your last action... I don't think anyone is scavenging for the second piece of food yet, and the jaberjay is up in the air and another hack attempt can help secure our point. I leave it to your judgement, wherever you and Val end up, please let us know your choice of action and your results through a whisper. I'm leaving another false whisper here for Sydney, advising you to commit to a full attack as if we're desperate to finish Deo off. I've tagged Holly and Wren so they can see it."

Wren popped his head back into the room, in search of a smoke. He was feeling a bit tense with all the short conversations going on today. " Valeria DeMasque still got those cigarettes? Could I borrow one?" And by cigarettes, I mean that gun you snagged. Can I have it, if you're not going to attack Deo with it? I have one action left and I want a sure hit. You can trade it to me in a whisper if you want. I think that's allowed. Let me know.
Lartius, if you see this, please use hack and/or attack Deo for your remaining actions.

"You looking for this?" Syd asked as she held out the pack of cigarettes that Deo had given her. "I know it's a bad habit but god does it relieve stress. "I've been successful on hitting Deo with two arrow hits, do you need me to employ the third?" she whispered.

"Yes, that'll do!" Wren accepted Syd's pack of cigarettes and lit one. "Hrm. These aren't as good as the clove ones I snagged from Vester the night we all escaped. But, they'll do. Thanks." He turned to Val. "If you have any more, I'd gladly have one for later if that's alright." "If you value your safety, you'll do what needs to be done."

From the doorway a cigarette flew into the room at Wren.
Attack: Aim Throw at Wren 1H53yRnkd10+1
The cigarette landed directly in Wren's lap.
...followed by what appeared to be Gwen's sock.d10+1

Wren stashed the cigarette away into his boot. He batted the sock away. "Uh...thanks? I guess." Wren walked back to the dorm as he finished the cigarette Syd had given him. "So, you're going to risk a failed attack rather than share and allow us a guarantee? That's...kinda shitty. Is it the vektor cp1 handgun? Because Holly or I could get a sure shot with that, at Deo-who is our target, or haven't you caught up?" Wren looked concerned.
"You DO know Deo and Syd are talking to Cal about taking us down, right???

"You're welcome," a shout comes from somewhere. A note falls out of the sock, "I know that it might seem a bit selfish to fire the gun myself but right now I know that I can trust myself and with all the subterfuge going on right now I want to make sure that the bullets fly in the right direction.
PS: Its a P90 SMG"

Cal takes a seat in the now empty party room. The lights are beginning to flicker, power through the city must be becoming scarce. His arms slump down across the table, his arms follow.
Fuck...
He had fucked up, again. His paranoia got to the best of him, made an assumption that a potential friend had gone rogue. They may have taken down a Peacekeeper, and secured the Watchtower, but resources were wasted. Time was wasted, trust unnecessarily sacrificed. Worst of all, Wren got hurt, and it was his fault.

Sydney walked in, a look of exhaustion on her face as she took a seat next to Cal. She really couldn't imagine what he was feeling or that he even wanted to talk. But out of everyone there, she felt the closest to him because of their kindred spirits.
"You all right?"

Cal looked up to her voice, his eyes welled up, his face broken. He didn't want to face her, but she deserved to know.
"Sydney, I'm so sorry. I get paranoid, and I'm afraid I didn't trust you today. I did the same thing to Wren a few days back when I spied on him. I wasn't sure what you were doing when I read your first post on Deo's thread. So I took action, made sure other Accord members pitched in, just in case you... you..."
Cal couldn't finish the statement, his shame stopping him short of the accusation.
"You did good, better than me. You've got more of a right to be a Peacebringer than I do. I'm so sorry I didn't trust you..."

It took a full few seconds for the realization of what Cal was saying to spread to Sydney. Oh. Oh...oh no. That...was not what she thought at all. Her face crumpled for a second before she steeled herself to not react outwardly. "So you thought I'd...huh. And so you...and everyone, were going to....huh. Well, I mean...now would be the time without my weapon, I guess." She sat back with an empty expression for a second before exhaling deeply. "I mean, I understand the paranoia but, I mean, I was ready to do it, I used everything I had. The plan had been set and god knows you understand what it's like to...this whole...yeah. I just...wow. Okay. Yeah." She took one more deep breath to hold her composure, which in fairness she thought she was doing a good job on.
"Wren told me if I valued my safety, I should do what needs to be done...but my safety hasn't been guaranteed since the day they called my name at the Reaping. I was born and trained to be one of them and to be 'part of something great' or whatever but at the end of the day, I realized our training didn't matter. We were going to get shot down like dogs anyway. Even Peacekeepers aren't safe from them. Out of everyone, I thought you knew that...but I'm not sure I entirely blame you for, you know, not trusting me. I mean, at the end of the day, none of you have to trust me. It's a war, that's kind of the point. All I'm gonna do is what I think is right for kids born after us, so they don't have to. That's, you know, it. That's the endgame for me."

Cal's eyes go wide, panicking over what he may have implied. Fuck, why does nothing I say come out right? "Sydney, no one was planning on attacking you. When I suggested you may not be honest in your intent, no one called to hurt you. No one said anything against your character. I meant what I said before, you would be judged based on your actions, not just your words or background alone. I was the only one who cast out that doubt, desperate to protect those I care for, so I took steps to make sure Deo would be put into the ground, whether or not your arrows found their mark." Cal took a deep breath, tears streaming down his face. "Please... I only doubt myself now. The situation you're in right now, it's a lot like Sharlot's. I think it was my actions that had driven her to give up in the Accord, in the rebel cause. Don't let my paranoia, my foolishness drive you away from the others. You've done what they asked of you, everyone is safe because of you, and they will help you from now on. You've earned that trust, that faith. Don't throw it away like I did. If you have to resent, doubt or hate anyone here, it should only be me." Cal listened to Sydney's whisper, hoping he can say something, do something to make up for the doubt he put in her.
"I believe you completely. Wren... can be a fucking idiot sometimes. You shouldn't have been threatened, you had been given a request and a choice, and you made the right one. Your goal is a noble one, undertaken to help those beyond yourself, paid for with your own life. Mine was more selfish, I just didn't want to see my friends die if they didn't have to. But then... Deo asked who to attack and I agreed with his suggestions, if nothing else to maintain my facade. Wren and Holly obviously freaked out, correctly blaming me for having put their lives on the line when I had no right to do so. I still meant what I had said before, you don't have to die alone, and you don't have to accomplish your goal alone.
I'm so sorry, Sydney. I've done nothing to earn your trust or respect, so I don't expect it. But please, if you choose not to trust me, put your faith in those who will stand with you. Val and Gwen are true to themselves, they even put faith in me tonight, when I had no one else trusting me. They're the best example, but anyone here should be willing to offer you the same now."

It took a moment for everything to click with Syd, she had really thought that she was in danger earlier. She nodded and forced a small smile. "Well, the job got done at the end of the day so there's not much to complain about on my end. I'm alive for now, we got the tower, I can sleep tonight knowing I'll be, you know, as safe as any of us are by now. "So that...phew," the relief all but flooded through her body as she bumper her shoulder against Cal. "I gotta be honest. After what Wren said and all of...everything, I was automatically assuming that I was in trouble. I tried to keep that sort of, Peacekeeper facade with Deo so he wouldn't suspect anything before the trigger, or arrow, was pulled. It was...risky, I guess but I didn't want my cover blown this early. But it's, it's fine. You startled me but I'm in this for more than just myself at this point. Tell Wren I promise not to bet his life on this sort of thing again."

Cal's expression softened, his state a little more lifted by their conversation. He noted Sydney's forced smile and leaned his shoulder into hers. "We're safe for tonight. And... thank you for the talk. I'm really glad Holly reached out to you and that you're in good hands. You don't need to fake optimism here, it was your honest state that made me reach out to you to begin with." He nodded, thinking back to Wren.
"I'll pass that along, assuming we're still on good terms. Sorry I startled you, we were both playing the same cover, but I got antsy. I look forward to working with you, Sydney."
