Loise wasn't sure where to start her training. She noticed a large platform that appeared to be a treadmill. It was probably best to limber up and start with something she was comfortable with. She walked over and approached the instructor.
"I've never seen such a large treadmill. What does it do?"
"The tread mill moves in every direction and will put obstacles in your way or launch projectiles at you. It allows you to work on speed but in a manner that's more reflective of the games."
"Can I start off slow? I just want start off at a jog to warm up?"
"What ever works for you," he said condescendingly. " I'm not the tribute. Let me know if you want me to kick up the simulations."
The instructor's attitude struck a chord with Loise. Why does he give a shit if I want to start off slow? Like he said, I'm the tribute right?
Loise stood at the center of the treadmill, and gave the instructor a slight nod. The treadmill started to move and and Loise started to jog along with it. She was going at a relaxing speed as a yellow hologram of an object appeared at the other side of the room. It gradually came into focus and it "moved" closer. She could now tell that it was a wall about three feet high. As it approached she put one hand out and attempted to vault the short wall.

Loise gracefully hopped over the wall and continued to jog. She easily avoided a few more obstacles, a rock here, an occasional ditch or a log there. After a few minutes she had acclimated to the simulator.
"Can you take the speed up and bring on some more obstacles?"
The instructor shrugged as he adjusted the controls. Loise could feel the track beneath her pick up speed. The track suddenly changed directions. Loise lost her footing for a moment, placed a hand down, and caught her stride again.
A small yellow blip appeared on her right. It tracked high up towards the ceiling. What was the simulator doing now?
The yellow blip started to fall from the ceiling, elongating into a straight line as it fell.
"Javelin!" yelled the instructor.
Loise barely had time to react.

Wren passed by the treadmill as he exited the greenhouse. "Nice!" He was impressed with Eloise's dodging. That could certainly be useful in the arena.

Loise came out of her tumble and back to her feet. 'Not the most graceful, but effective' she thought. Behind her, she could hear the instructor scoff. Something clicked underneath the platform as tree holograms appeared around her. She began running between the trees, nimbly dodging to the left and right. The tread mill slowly shifted her direction to the left. She side-stepped a large tree and as she did, the silhouette of a man swinging a club at chest level rapidly appeared.

Loise could feel the club just barely miss the top of her head.
"Go ahead and turn it off!"
Loise was working up a sweat and figured she should probably cut her loses before she ended up on her ass in front of all the other tributes. Besides, this was supposed to be the warm up. She should probably start working on something that might be a little more useful if she actually had to face-off against another tribute.

As Eloise stepped off the treadmill, Wren figured why not try once or twice? Like with the greenhouse, it's best to start with a baseline so you'll know where to put your focus.
He stepped up. "Let's start it on low..." The treadmill started, and he was thrown off guard a little. He hoped his size would be an advantage in these types of situations. Wren jumped over some small logs and bushes without difficulty, so the instructor nodded and turned it up one notch. A boulder was coming up.

"Not bad," the instructor smiled. Wren was feeling rather lucky today. Don't get cocky. People are watching...
"Just one more notch, please, with some air obstacles." Suddenly, several arrows were buzzing toward him.

One arrow just grazed past his left ear with a whirring sound. "Um. I think that's enough for now..." Wren stepped down and wandered through the training center.
