Arnie had managed to grab the hovercraft remote during the cornucopia, though he didn't get the mace. In fact Jessie Zwinkler, that little shit, had beaten him to it. That little punk had a bit more in him than Arnie thought. With his pride and torso wounded, Arnie used his hovercraft remote to get to the West tower as soon as he could.
"This is better than the south tower, its raining acid over there!" Arnie breathed a sigh of relief as he saw the methodically shifting platforms. Just what he liked, a mental game!
"Anyone have a plan to put forward?" Arnie wasn't looking at anyone in particular, but he certainly didn't want to be the one making the calls.

Seth stepped off the hovercraft and into the tower to meet the rest of his team.
"You guys were incredible!" he shouted enthusiastically. "We pulled it off! We stuck together and had each others' backs and we owned that Cornucopia! You all proved to me out there that you are trustworthy individuals that can work as a team. These Hunger Games are going to be no prob..."
Seth trailed off as it finally dawned on him that the arena was going to be one long staircase up to the top of the tower. His frail knees trembled and he collapsed down into a sitting position.
"Of all the possible themes... stairs?"

Ayla was glad to see that nearly everyone had made it to the west tower. Unfortunately, Arnie wasn't able to make it onto the westward hovercraft. That was damn bad luck. Just as Ayla was thinking this, she saw Arnie wizzing through the air on a personal hovercraft. He hopped off and said "This is better than the south tower, its raining acid over there! Anyone have a plan to put forward?" "Glad you made it!" Ayla said. I don't have a particular plan in mind. That was the only remote, right? I guess we're stuck here unless the sponsors give us a remote. Maybe we should just regroup for a bit - catch up." "I managed to grab some morphling - though I've already used it. Those fucking careers came after me. I also got the smoke bomb that Seth was trying to get." She looked down, "I wasn't able to get a weapon, though, and I'm pretty disappointed in that. How did everbody else do?"

"Shit. Acid? No!" Derrick panicked a bit. That's where Olive had run off to. He heard the cannons go off. The adrenaline still pumping through his veins made his emotions run high. He grabbed the collar of Arnie's shirt, "Where's Olive? Is she okay? Did you see her?"

"Why should we care if she's okay? She screwed us over! Now we have barely anything to protect ourselves with."

He grabbed the collar of Arnie's shirt, "Where's Olive? Is she okay? Did you see her?" Arnie felt his shirt get tight around his neck as Derrick was frantically questioning him about his district mate, Arnie understood the nerves. "Relax, Derrick. When I last saw her she had a Jabberjay and a Sword and she looked to be in perfect health." Arnie said as he calmly moved Derrick's hand from his shirt and patted him on the back. "I feel pretty confident she will get herself right, most everyone else there is unarmed."

Ox had breathed a sigh of relief as he saw Arnie arrive on his hovercraft.
"Thank goodness." He breathed. He clapped Arnie on the shoulder. "I thought you were in trouble there for a second pal."
Ox pulled out the large package of food he had grabbed and layed it out for the rest to see and put his axe down next to it, a wicked piece of metal.
"I managed to grab these with the help of some friends of mine." Ox smiled at the others.
He saw Seth shrink to the ground in dismay as he saw the stairs. Ox walked over and lay a hand on his shoulder.
"It's ok Seth, no one is getting left behind, I'll carry you on my back if I have to." Ox collected his things again and looked onward.
"Besides, we need your brains to get us past this."

Seth smiled at Ox. "That's right. No one gets left behind. And that goes for everyone. Now that we've established a real alliance here, I want to make one thing clear from the get go. It is in our best interest to keep each other alive. One of us is guaranteed to win these Games and the only thing that can stop that is if we crumble from within. We're all here to win, and I get that, but your odds of surviving with us are one in seven. Out there it's one in nineteen. We have the opportunity to sleep safely and soundly every night. So what I'm trying to say is, be smart and do not ruin this alliance we've built. Understood?"

Derick relaxed. He put his hand to his forehead.
"Sorry, Arnie. I just... I don't want to let anyone down."
Derrick let himself calm down. Letting the adrenaline disappear. He turned to Alicia.
"I'm sorry, Alicia. Olive came to me at the last minute. I didn't have time to let you guys know that she wanted to join our group. She was probably just defending herself." He felt himself being torn again. "I had so little time to talk to her, though. I'm not exactly sure what she's planning."

"Relax Seth," Alicia said, waving him off casually. "No one's going to backstab you. We all shared a sacred bond of friendship and liquor last night. We're all good."
"Olive on the other hand... Derrick, I know she's from your district but we don't know the first thing about her. She didn't even show up until the Training Days were practically over."

Derrick cast his eyes downward. He hated feeling so unlike himself. So filled with doubt.
"I know but..." he gritted his teeth and scowled. He might as well tell them. Maybe they could bring a better perspective about this. He was too close to the issue at hand. "She... She's the sister of a guy I liked back at our district. It was never serious. I never got a chance to tell him how I really felt, but... but we were still close. I would just feel guilty if I didn't at least try to help her in some way."
He looked at the group helplessly. "I'm sorry to put you guys through this. I'll do whatever you guys want to," he gave them a small smile. "After all. You guys are probably the best friends I've got. I don't want to ruin that."

Ayla was surprised to hear this news about Derrick. "Wow that's tough. I had no idea. Did she mention where she was all those days during the training? I thought she'd never turn up!"
Ayla tuned to Seth, "I'm so glad you made it! I was worried about you when you went for that smoke bomb - things didn't look so good. I got it though. I figure we'll use it as a team anyway!"
"I don't know how to feel about Olive.... I can't help but be frustrated with her for getting Alicia's items, but I understand Derrick's position as well. The truth is, at this point I don't think we have a say in the matter anyway. We have no way of getting to the other towers so we might as well try to build up our food supply while we wait for them to kill each other off."

Derrick grimaced at the mention of the others killing each other off. He ran his hand through his hair, trying to compose himself.
"Yea. What's important is that we're here as a team," he grinned. "I'm pretty sure not many others could say that for themselves!"
He dug around in his pockets, "I got this energy pill that Rosa wanted. Anyways, I'm going to try and see if I can't find us some food while we can!"

Arnie smiled at Ox, the hulk of a man who grabbed his shoulder. It felt good to be in the company of friends. Looking at Seth, Arnie agreed "The math checks out, and with an unpredictable environment like this any advantage we can get is a real help. Build up our reserves and wait it out while keeping each other safe like Ayla said."
Derrick had confided in the group, that couldn't be easy. Arnie thought about how different their relationship was from his own district mate. That scar obsessed psychopath was a bit odd to say the least, Arnie silently wished for a quick end to her...was that bad?

“Derrick, I didn’t realize you knew Olive from back home,” Alicia said apologetically, suddenly feeling awful. “How did you know her brother? What was he like?”

"Oh,don't worry about it, Alicia. She kept mostly to herself so I didn't know her too well. Her brother and I were on the same lumberjack crew." He turned his head and it almost seemed as if he was looking far away. "He was kind and sweet. The sort of person who wouldn't last a day in the arena. He's pretty against the whole idea of the games," he shook his head smiled. He shrugged, "I dunno. It's kind of like I just want to protect him," his smile turned a bit mischievous, "amongst other things."
"Anyways, we should focus on moving up. Who knows how fast that lava is rising."
