Arnie grabbed his cup with its deliberately weak drink and nodded to Ayla.
"Strategy is good, I don't think it's worthless. There is strength in numbers and in these games, strength is always good."
Arnie lifted his drink and took a big gulp, maybe the next one would be stronger...

Rosa looked up at the brunette from district five that was addressing her. Despite herself Rosa did a double take. Of course his sister would never have had this thought but she'd admit it to himself...she was very attractive. But current circumstances as they were that was a can of worms she didn't want to open. Besides then this whole thing would have been for nothing...
"An alliance huh," she mused slightly tippsily. I thought they would have all give and formed themselves by now."
I mean the whole thing was pointless. An alliance would just delay the inevitable end to her plan but at least it might make her look a bit better in te eyes of her district.
"What did you have in mind?" She continued finally.
"And," she threw in for good measure, "I should probably include that peanut butter loving good from my district as well what with the eyes of my district watching and all..."

"I'm just throwing the idea around to whoever is interested. Of course, I need to find people I can trust."
She nodded approval to Arnie. "I'm glad someone else is on the same page!"
There was something strange about Rosa... Was she perhaps more masculine than was typical for a young girl? "What's your story, Rosa?"

Rosa froze, "What?"
It was a simple question. But one that somehow she had forgotten to plan for with her single minded focus on death.
"I'm a girl." She paused. "...er from district 10. My family owns a ranch. Stereotypical I know but all stereotypes come from somewhere. I had a fiancé but that life is behind me know I guess." She continued getting into the swing of things. "I have a brother about the same age but he ran off like a...coward after making some stupid attempt to whisk me away for the games."
She nodded to herself, "...a really stupid attempt."

"Hmmm..." Ayla was not convinced. There was something weird going on here.

Rosa decided to change the subject abruptly. However the only thing that came to her mind was probably the one thing she shouldn't have turned the conversation to.
But without thinking she blurted out, "So I think we should form an alliance!"

Ox was trashed. He had been dancing and then someone had intorduced several chocoholic drinks to him. He had never had alcohol and despite his size he had absolutely no tolerance for it.
Ox took everything that happened as a reason for him to take a gulp of his drink.
Someone Did well at black jack! Takes a drink.
Someone busted at black jack! Takes a drink.
Seth and Ayla got locked inside of his room! Takes a drink.
They came back out! Drinks galore!
Ox wandered about and danced and watched everyone having a good time at the party. Not a bad way to go out when every person but one was going to die soon. Ox finally sat down on the couch with a cup of water that someone had shoved into his hand and drank that, although it was safe to assume he still thought it was booze.

Ayla was surprised by Rosa's abruptness. She barely knew Rosa, and she wasn't sure she could trust her... there was clearly something she was hiding. Ayla just decided that Rosa was trying to change the subject. "Whoa there! We just met. I'll be sure to consider your offer though."
Ox was having a rough time on the coach. Ayla rolled him over to his side with a great heave- just in case. She encourages him to keep drinking water and brought him a blanket.
She went to find Seth. "Hey- can we talk somewhere privately? Maybe head back to the room for a bit?"

Rosa realized age had made a social faux pas when Ayla all but backed away as if Rosa had just pulled a knife on her.
Just to be safe age double checked her satchel and the knife she had used to whittle was still safely tucked inside. As she watched her walk away Rosa realized that the brief interaction she had with Ayla was the only time since the reaping that she had actually felt...himself.
Maybe. Just maybe this was something she shouldn't let just walk away. After all the game was all but tomorrow.
As she watched Ayla walk over to her district mate and head to the door she found her feet were moving to intercept her of their own accord.
"Wait," she said while seemingly sighing at the same time, "just..." She paused.
She didn't want to go into this alone. She knew that now. And she wanted her sister to be remembered for having the same fire and tenacity that spurred on this whole fiasco in the first place. She Ayla to trust her but there was only that...one way.
"Ok. You're right. I'm obviously hiding something but I don't want to do this alone anymore." She finished looking around the room before dropping her voice.
"Can we meet somewhere private," She asked in a hushed tone echoing the same line Ayla had thrown out just a minute ago.

Rosa had stopped Ayla. She wanted to talk. This was fine- but Ayla needed to speak to Seth first.
"Give me a minute, I'll be back" she said to Rosa.

"V!" Derrick called out, throwing his hands in the air. He made his way over to her and gave her a bear hug, spinning around in the process. He then proceeded to try and get her into doing a loose interpretation of a salsa. "Hwy Derrick! I- WOAH!" she barely sputtered out she was swept into some into some kind of dance she wasn't familiar with "Meh, this seems like fun," she thought to herself as she attempted to find the downbeat. Ox sees everyone start to dance and smiles, he jumps up off the couch, and grabs both Derrick and V around the wastes and spins them around in a circle. "Yeah! Dancing!" Derrick laughed as Ox picked both V and himself up off the ground. So that's what it feels like.He caught a glimpse of someone else entering the room. He motioned for Ox to set them down. He made his way over to welcome the newcomer. Maybe it's not my place to do the part of a host, but I don't want him to feel unwelcome."Welcome! The party just started! Name's Derrick! You got V and Ox over there. The lovely couple dancing together are Ayla and Seth. Then you Alicia. Technically it's her and Ox's room, but welcome all the same!" Derrick smiled and held his hand out for a handshake. *Hyugh* "Too tight. Too tight! " She was finally able to recover from the twirling bear-hug. She saw Derrick make his way to some newcomers and decided to say 'hi'.

As Rosa waited for Ayla to return...if she returned after that display...she noticed that the odd girl from the rose garden was there too.
How long had she been there...? She seemed to have a real knack for just being...unnoticeable. I mean she was odd but considering the situation they were all in "odd" was the least of Rosa's worries.
The thing is Rosa couldn't tell whether V's attitude towards her was one of disdain or whether she truly lived in her own little world. "Must be nicer than the one were actually living in," Rosa thought to herself with a smile.
"Well I should probably at least say hello..." Rosa thought as she made her way over to the tribute.
"Hey," she said brightly, "Didn't recognize you without the...bush"
It had sounded MUCH wittier in her head...

"So Al, what's your stor-" Alicia shook her head and took a drink. "Sorry, had to cut myself off. We don't have time for backstories. Just tell me the worst thing you've ever done. And then see if you can beat... this!" "Worst thing I've ever done? I blackmailed someone with this photo he had after he shoved me in a locker. Let's just say it was more of him than any of us wanted to see," he chuckled as he took a spot next to Ali, rolling a 10 and a 5. "Damn it! Always been shit at these. Whose up next?" He passed off the die as he took a big long drink, his ears perking up at the mention of alliances when Rosa came in. "Well, peanut butter's good and all but did you tell him it'd do shit for him in the arena?"

Rosa realized she was being addressed by a dark haired boy she recognized as being from district three. He seemed a bit...loosened up from the refreshments in the room but he looked like he was having a good time so she wasn't going to judge.
"Trust me, he may be a bit...special...but you should try to watch him in the gym downstairs when he thinks no one is watching. I'm beginning to think all I'll have to do is point him in the right direction and follow in his wake. Simple directions. Big results," she said smiling.

The partied continued into the early hours of the morning. Alicia was still enjoying her game of cards with Al as they shared stories.
“I hope you still have that photo somewhere!” Alicia laughed. “You could publicly shame him on national television.”
“I’ve given in to blackmail to avoid trouble before. It was the only way to get out of a whipping after I stole all that alcohol from McGreer Foods. In hindsight I should have just taken the lashes, but we gotta live with the choices we make, right?”
Alicia then noticed Ox looking miserable on the couch.
“Hang on, I’ll be right back.”
Alicia plopped down on the couch next to her District mate.
“Heeey buddy,” she said drunkenly, grabbing Ox’s face and turning it to look at her. “You doin’ okay? You look horrible.”

Derrick grinned at Seth. "No problem."
There was some talk of alliances and strategy that Derrick couldn't quite focus on. He saw Alicia move towards Ox, who looked more than a little drunk. Derick went to sit in a chair next to the couch.
"Heh, guess we should have told him not to drink so much his first time."

“Oh he’ll be fine, he’s a big boy,” Alicia said, playing with Ox’s dreadlocks.
“I’m really glad you came over Derrick. You’re a cool guy, and Ox seems to like you a lot too. I hate the “alliance” term everyone’s throwing around, but I think it’d be really cool to, you know, hang out in the arena.”
Alicia held up her glass.
“So what do you say? Can we toast to that?”

Ox moved his mouth but he just ended up mumbling with his cheeks pressed together by Alicias hands. But Derrick came over to talk to him and Alicia and she was playing with his hair and chatting about hanging out in the arena.
Ox chuckled at that, hanging out in the arena, talking about it as if it were some kind of club. But hanging with Alicia and Derrick didn't sound so bad.
"Yeah!" Ox exclaimed throwing his hand into the air sloshing water all over the carpet in front of him.

"Someone's been having a good time haha." Jessie then turned to Alicia but was still speaking to the room.
"Yeah, I agree that the term alliance is thrown around a lot more in the games than it should be. I don't know about you guys for me an alliance tends to evoke the idea of a stronger bond between its members than is likely possible for the games on any decently large scale. If you think you can get a big enough group by searching for members that way, then more power to you if you succeed. However, for these games especially, time really seems to have flown by fast. It's definitely hard to truly trust anyone in such a short period of time, and it probably wouldn't be hard to fake being trustworthy for this long either."
Jessie paused for a bit before continuing. "All that being said, being able to utilize the power of numbers to try to capture something like the cornucopia or something is certainly valuable. So as weird as it sounds, I think the best idea is to just work with a larger group of people for the cornucopia even if you are not totally sure if you can trust them long term. Especially since the cornucopia can become a hell of a bloodbath, the group may not even be as large afterwards anyways. Then afterwards we discuss what move makes the most sense next. If people want to split up the group and take their portion of the winnings and leave then fine by me. They still helped me get ahead of some of the other tributes."

Derrick smiled. He was really starting to like this Alicia woman. He laughed at Ox's exuberant response.
"I will most certainly toast to that," he held up the cup he was holding.
"To hanging out in the arena!"
Derrick listened to what Jessie was saying, though not that closely since he was still gradually getting more fuzzy minded. When Jessie was finished Derrick ruffled Jessie's hair. "Don't be so serious, little man, if you want, we'll take care of you."

Alicia finished her drink.
"Yeah little man," she agreed, "We should all have a 'I won't stab you if you won't stab me' policy.
She laid her head on Ox's shoulder and closed her eyes.
"I hope the cornucopia has cigarettes. I will literally kill for cigarettes."

Ox put his own head atop alicia's and sighed suddenly tired.
"Yeah me too.. I've gotten kind of used to those things now..." Ox smiled as he sank further into the soft comfortable couch.
"I'm... pooped."
