Seth’s mentor guided him to the hotel room, though her “guiding” was more of a “tugging” as Seth limped as fast as he could down the hallway to keep up with her. But when he made it to the room, the luxurious suite filled with delicacies from the Capitol made the sweat he had broken worthwhile.
For a moment, Seth considered waiting for the girl from District 5 to arrive before digging into the feast laid out on the dining room table. Seth had been escorted through the handicap entrance of the hotel a few minutes early. Despite the situation, Seth was grateful to not have to force his way through the crowds gathering by the front gate of the Training Center.
Unable to resist the smell eminating from an ornate bowl of clam chowder, Seth dove in.

Ayla walked into the hotel room to see a vast feast before her eyes, the likes of which she could never even had imagined. In the midst of the table was a boy eating clam chowder. Ayla recognized him as Seth, her fellow tribute from district 5. She had not seen him before the reaping. Why was that? Where had he been all those years? And what had happened to his leg?
She walked straight up to Seth and introduced herself. "Hi, I'm Ayla."

Seth paused mid-bite and looked up guiltily at Ayla. He had only seen her for a moment on the stage before they were ushered into separate train cars.
"Sorry ma'am," he quickly apologized. "I would have waited... I meant to wait... but the chowder smelled so good, and I was so hungry, and I haven't even seen seafood since the tour through District 4."
Seth slowly and a bit painfully hoisted himself out of his chair. "Seth Judkins at your service," he said with a smile and a slight bow. He gestured to the table. "Care to join me for a bite to eat? I guess we have a lot to discuss, huh?"

Ayla smiled for the first time since arriving at the capitol. It was nice to be treated like a human being again, and not just a pig for slaughter.
"Don't even worry about it, I would have done the same thing. This food looks amazing, I can't even decide where to start!" She threw one of everything onto her plate and began eating a popover.
"Yes, there is much to discuss. We need to come up with a plan for entering the stadium. Do you have any ideas?"

“Well,” Seth said between mouthfuls of a roasted animal he had never seen before. “The costumes and chariots usually have to show some sort of District pride, right? To be completely honest I don’t know that much about District 5. My friend Erica works at the plant with all the huge reflective panels on top, you know? If this way is north…”
Seth made a map of the downtown square using biscuits and pointed to a long building made of three biscuits.
“That one,” Seth continued. “But I couldn’t tell you how it works or what really goes on in there. Where do… did you work? Do you know anything about the industry that we could turn into a design?”

"My whole family works at the power plant. We could talk to out designer about creating costumes that light up? I think we need to do something that will really get the sponsors attention. How do we want to come off: friendly, strong, as a team, as individuals? What do you think would impress the sponsors the most?"

Unable to come up with a solid plan over dinner, Seth switched on the Hunger Games broadcast. They were replaying the introduction of the sponsors.
“What would impress the sponsors the most?” Seth thought aloud, repeating Ayla’s question.
The sponsors spoke excitedly about fighting and gambling and entertainment value. Finally the previous years’ winners came on screen.
"I'm lookin' forward to seein' some tributes plan ahead and use each other to win,” said Agni.
“Without the tributes I had backing me up I definitely wouldn't be here today!” said Millie.
“Maybe we don’t need to impress those rich assholes,” said Seth. “I mean, maybe the opinion that matters the most are the kids who got it done before, right? They seem to think it’s about teamwork and planning. If we want their votes maybe we just need to prove to them that we really planned this routine, and that it wasn’t just made up on the spot. You know? I think when we get out there, one of us should perform some kind of setup, and the other one should pull the trigger! What do you think Ayla?”

Ayla considered, "That sounds fine to me. What kind of setup do you have in mind?"

Ayla paced and paced. The parade was in less than three hours! The time to plan was now.
"Seth, what's the plan?"
"Maybe we could stage a fight on the chariot, to come off as fierce? Or we could try some type of acrobatic stunt?"

"Hmm I like where you're going with that. Acrobatics can be difficult for me because of my legs, but I definitely have the arm strength to pull something off. If you think you can pull off a stunt on a moving chariot I could catch you!"

"I think we have a shot at it, I'm fairly agile. Shall I try to jump onto your shoulders, or land in your arms?" She looked at the ground embarrassed.
"As for the costumes, do you like the idea of them being lit up?"

"Lights are good, yeah," Seth agreed. He felt odd attempting to design a float to a District he couldn't claim allegiance to. Seth caught her shyly glance at her feet. "And don't worry, I'll catch you. Just jump right into my arms," he said hoping he sounded confident.
