Wren woke up to horrifying noises. He couldn't tell if it was a dream, or if there was actually someone some thing creeping around the hospital. He looked down and noticed Cal was still sleeping. Considering this could be their last night of sleep, he kissed Cal's forehead and quietly made his way downstairs. As he walked past the window, he heard a soft hum coming from above. Hovercraft....? Shit.He was surprised to see Reese and Eloise. "Oh! Good morning! I...didn't think you two would still be here. I'm glad to see you, though!" He gave both girls a hug. He looked over at Anna, whom he'd never really spoken to. "Hi. I'm Wren. It's uh...nice to meet you, even if under terrible circumstances." He tried his best to smile, despite the feeling of impending doom that filled his head. "So, with our pods yesterday, the group was able to work together to disarm them both. If you don't mind pitching in a little, I'd love to work with you. Obviously, we all need to take some time taking care of ourselves, but it sounds like we have something bigger to take care of as well..." He looked up towards the ceiling, hoping he wasn't the only one that heard the bumps and scrapes of movement up above. Wren whispered to his fellow rebels. "Doing the math, we won't all survive today, even if we take down this muttation. If I give someone my morphling and food just after completing my actions for the day, they might be able to survive through the day. Reese, Eloise, Thomas-how are you all health-wise? I assume I'm in the worst shape, but that could be wrong."

Cal walks downstairs to find the group gathered up, death hanging overhead and crawling through the streets. At first shaken, Cal's eyes are determined, his expression clear.
"You know, it's nice to know that the danger is real, that it isn't just in your head, and that I've lived long enough to help you all today."
He takes a seat next to the group, imagining this would be a good time to have a smoke if he did that. Cal simply isn't cool enough to pull that off, so he settles on examining his weapon.
"I was angry last night, frustrated that we all stuck around. But, I realize now that if we were truly separate, we'd have all been cut down. If this means I can help more of you reach Day 9, then thank you."

Wren placed a hand on Cal's shoulder. "Well...you're armed. I'm armed. We can definitely try our best to take out whatever's coming at us, but we'll need probably another hand or two, and a lot of luck..." Wren frowned. "We'll just have to update everyone on our progress, so no one wastes any time..."
He swallowed hard, not wanting to upset Eloise with what he was about to ask. "Eloise, if you'd rather have more chances at getting past that hovercraft, I could borrow any weapons you might have, for that muttation thing. It's not as lucky as what I have (I think?), but it'd do more damage...something to consider, anyway. I could spend my whole day attacking that thing, and not even attempt to get past the hovercraft.
I figure, I'm dead anyway. Why not save as many as I can?"
Wren smiled faintly, accepting his probable fate.

Cal walks over to Wren and punches him in the arm. Not playfully, this one stings. His eyes are angry, but there was also pain and sadness behind those eyes.
"Shut the fuck up, Wren. None of you are dead yet, and all of you have a chance to make this a better world. I'm not going to live there. There's no place for me, Wren... I'm a monster. What I am is evil, at least that's what they all think; the invading rebels, the Peacekeepers above, even my father. I have no illusions about it, but it must be done. I'm willing to die for it."
He looks around the room, his expression pleading for everyone to be cautious.
"You can all hack, you can capture points. Most of you are in better shape than me, or can be. We're running out of time and food, if you can't fight for a free Panem, then fight for yourselves. I can't do something smart, so I'll do something right. Please... stay safe, let me take this one."

Wren winced as Cal punched his wounded arm. "Fuck, man....alright." Wren sighed and listened to Cal. Wren couldn't look Cal in the eyes as he spoke. Tears were already running down his face, though he was unsure whether it was from his arm hurting or from Cal's words. It was likely both.
Wren took Cal's face in his hands and gave him a slight shake as he nearly shouted his next few words. "You're no monster, Cal. You might be a ghost, but you're no monster, and you're not evil. You've done more for Panem than anyone I know. You defied what you are to do what's right. If your dying wish is for me to go on, I have no choice but to try, then, I guess. I'll have to continue fighting, for you." Wren exhaled and sobbed through his next few words. "But if you do die, don't you dare feel inferior. You won't die a monster. You'll die a big damn hero. A hero in my eyes, and a hero to all of Panem whether they know it or not."
Wren wanted to kiss Cal, but could only manage to press his forehead hard into Cal's as he cried. "Just do me a favor and at least TRY to survive through the day? I can't lose you..."
Wren sobbed quietly for a few moments and finally collected himself. He turned to the group as he let out a big sigh and wiped his tears.
"Let's do this. We communicate on who's attacking that thing, and update any progress we think we've made."

Cal's anger fades as Wren's word cut into him. He begins to sob himself, his eyes remaining sad but slowly growing relieved. He gently puts his hands on Wren's shoulders, not breaking their gaze.
"I... I want to believe you. It's only fair that I try and do as you ask since you're trying to stay alive yourself. Letting myself die would be just what the Capital would want, but I aim to misbehave. Thank you Wren, I'm not done yet. Not while I'm still standing."
He draws Wren in for an embrace, the guilt he feels for his words weighing down on his head. After a few minutes of holding each other, he looks up to the rest of the group.
"Sorry... I guess I had gotten carried away. We can still do this, try and kill this thing before it reaches us. I've got a full clip, can try two bursts on this creature, still have time to evade that hovercraft. Would that help?"

Wren whispered sweet nothings to Cal, to further soothe his mind. I rolled a 5 on spy...I might use spy for another action. That's leaving a lot to chance...so, I'll attack at least once but possibly only once. (only visible to Cal, because I don't want everyone to know my spy roll)

Cal appreciates Wren's comfort, breaks the embrace.
"I'm going to try my luck, promise to be back soon."
After a few minutes, Cal returns, covered in a cold sweat. He looks defeated, but not exhausted.
OOC: Damn it, missed twice using the SMG. I have one last shot and one last action left, holding off on it unless its absolutely necessary. I'd like to use this action for a spy roll, but I'll wait on you guys.

"Wren, you and Cal need to calm down. I just put two bullets into it. I don't know if you guys have any energy left but it should only take a punch to put it out of it's misery. No need for any more weapons, but I'm not doing all the heavy lifting. We can make it through today, death isn't knocking at the door just yet." I did 4 damage and still need to hack the hovercraft. Can we kill this and still hack the capitol to maintain control of the hospital?

Reese strolled in with air of confidence, the shotgun slung over her shoulder certainly didn't hurt either! With a nod, "Gentleman, Eloise, step back I got this. Consider the mutation taken care of, let's focus our efforts on our other issues and figure out exactly what is at stake here."

Cal just stares blankly at Eloise, nods his head. Taking it down a notch. A small smile even pops up on his face.
"Thank you Eloise, and I'm sorry. The situation looked a lot more hopeless at first, I'm glad you stuck around to keep our heads cool, and to kick ass of course. If you haven't already, please try and avoid the Hovercraft with your last action. We've got the rest from here."
He looks to Wren, eyeing his baton.
"We need one more hit, and that's the best shot we've got. Can you either land that final blow or..."
EDIT:
Cal steps back as Reese steps in.
"Right... that should do it too. Thanks Reese!"

Eloise was beaming as a little smirk grew across her face. "See Cal, thinks can still turn out alright. You and Wren always jump to conclusions. It's okay though, me and Reese will take care of you guys. Also Reese you probably don't need to use the shotgun if you want to save the ammo." She gave Cal a playful wink. "While Reese is off handling business we may want to talk about our next moves." Eloise released her hair from the tight bun she had made prior to dealing with the mutation. She began to braid her hair, like she always had when she was making big decisions. Reese
Just to be clear, Reese will probably be able to kill the mutation and still get a spy in? Call I'm assuming you still are waiting to spy on the helicopter, Cal and Thomas I'm assuming haven't used any actions yet?
Also how badly injured are you guys? Are you going to make it tomorrow? To the final day without food?

Cal's eyebrows pop up a bit, then settles into a grin. He could stand to be around a more assertive and confident Eloise, even if it means having to take a little teasing. "Good idea, we still have a lot of work to cover." Odds are Reese has this, she only has two rounds on her shotgun but her unarmed attack would be more accurate anyways, only need to deal 1 damage anyways. I've used two actions trying to shoot the monster with the SMG, missed both times. I have one action remaining, I was saving it to either Spy the hovercraft or help finish off the mutant.
I'm at 5/8 hp, Wren is 4/8 but he has a morphling available. I will take 2 damage from starving today, so if I'm hit I'm down. I'm fine with just using my spy check as my means of determining if I stay or go. With my food count, I'll be gone by the end of 9 anyways.

Wren was caught off-guard a bit when his little sister-figure came back looking like such a badass... She's not REALLY my sister. She's allowed to take care of herself. Actually, Egret is pretty strong, too. Maybe that's the similarity. Wren shook his head and smiled. "Thanks, you guys! I'm not always the luckiest, so my skills can only carry me so far, some days..." He gave Reese a smile and a nod at her offer to help out again. "Eloise, the only way I will survive through the end of day 9 is if I take my morphling, avoid getting hit by the hovercraft, AND if I get this next morphling. Otherwise, I'll die from starvation before tomorrow's over." Wren looked over at the med counter...that morphling was tempting.
ooc: I rolled a 5 on spying on the hovercraft. I might need to try again, because with 6 people that's really not a comfortable place to be. If I redo spy and look for morphling, I won't be able to hack. But, there's only one (probable) peacekeeper here, so whoever has actions left after muttation is dead and after getting in a spy roll, can hack. Probably Thomas... OR, I can give up and say I'll just die during day 9 and just spy/hack or whatever

As usual, Thomas slept in usin. The delightfully comfortable hospital bed he has grown accustomed to. As he was awaking, he over heard his friends in the room over. "Wow! Great work Reese and Eloise! Did you guys completely kill that thing, or does it still need another blow?" He then considered what they ought to do for the rest of the day. "How hurt is everyone? Will anyone be trying to get the morphling? I know whoever doesn't get past that hovercraft will for sure need it. Should we update eachother on our attempts so that if three people are very successful- others don't waste their actions trying to get passed? The ones that don't get passed will need the morphling the most" He then turned to Eloise as she was braiding her hair. "Do you need help? I can do French braids and even corn rows. I used to braid my little sisters hair all the time." He pulled out a red bow and offered it to Eloise "I found this in the supply depot if you want it. It reminded me of my sister, so I picked it up" "What do we kno about Anna- is she a rebel or a peacekeeper?"
OOC- updating this after realizing I wasn't on Desktop mode and missed all the whispers and OOC comments.
"I have 7/8 health, and enough food to get through day 8, so I'm planning on being alive tomorrow! .Reese has three weapons at her disposal. I also have a bow- Reese, let me know if your attack fails. Assuming my spies on the hover craft are decent I can definately hack"

Eloise bit her lip in contemplation, "I've never had corn rows. That would be pretty cool! Thanks!" She sat in front of Thomas. It seem like a lot of things reminded people of their sisters here. She thought about her own family and her siblings. She had made it past day one like she had promised, but now, survival meant even more. She wondered what had happened to her parents, but for the time being took solace in the fact that she had found a pseudo family. When I was at the Supply Depot, Anna didn't say or do much of anything. She did her own thing. I think chances are she's going to scavenge, spy and hack. She isn't good at hacking. No idea on alliance.

Cal sat across from Eloise cross legged, mildly amused at Thomas's hair antics. "It's the advantage of having bed head, I just wake up like this." He looks around at the gathered allies, thinking over what they've accomplished and how much more they had to go. He then looked back up to Eloise, a small smile on his face. "Hey, I just wanted to thank you. I mean, I already did for the muttation just now, but for having given me a chance to work with you guys and earn your trust. It seems like going rogue has suited you, marching across almost the whole continent unharmed and well stocked." Eloise, how are you doing on food and health? From what Thomas has described and what little Reese has mentioned, it seems like the three of you are in the best shape to carry this on.
Regarding the hovercraft, are we in agreement for each of us to make a Spy roll, let the odds decide our fate? Anna might be a peacekeeper or a rebel, I don't know. I'd like to beat her at the spy roll, but that's just cause I don't know if she'd be with us.
I think the only other business once the muttation has been beaten is figuring out scavenging the morphling and hacking the point. We can figure who's doing what as that monster dies.

Thomas got to work, happily braiding Eloise's hair. Her hair was smoother than his sisters, so he has to make the braides a bit bigger to get them to stay. After he finished he admired his work, "Hey, you look like a warrior princess!" And she was a warrior- dealing so much damage to that muttation. "I agree that we should let the chips fall where they may. It's not fair to ask anyone to do anything sacrificial. If anyone rolls something crazy (9 or above, it would be cool to let us know, so that if three people have high scores - the others could choose to hack and/or scavenge. Of course- it's entirely up to you and understand not wanting to share that information"

Wren laughed as Thomas styled Eloise's hair. "That looks great! If I ever make it back home, I should learn to do that for Egret..." Wren's voice trailed off. If I make it home. If home's even still there. He returned to the present moment, happy to have something of a family here. "So, how's the progress going, guys? I think Reese went to take care of that muttation..." "Sorry, guys. I think I wasted some time today. I went to look for morphling, hoping to either use it for myself or give it to anyone that gets injured...but I think I only have a 3/10 chance of finding it... Unless no one else is looking. If no one else is looking for it, then I'll use it to help out after that hovercraft does its damage...I'm pretty sure Anna is a peacekeeper, just based on numbers. I'd hate for it to end up in her hands if I'm right..." ooc: rolled a 3, if you couldn't tell lol

Thomas was interested to learn more about Egret- it was nice to talk about something from back home "How old is Egret, Wren? "Bummer about the morphling. My current plan is to spy on the hocercraft first, and see how that goes. If it goes well, then I will hack, and if that goes atleast decently - or if atleast one other rebel is going to hack, I'll try to get the morphling. It would be awful if Anna got it. If I'm still healthy tomorrow, I can pass it along to someone that needs it more. Spying on Anna seems pointless... I'd rather just assume she's a peacekeeper, and if she's not - we might find out tomorrow anyway. Unless of course someone has a spare action- buyin sort of doubt that... Times are tough.

Wren smiled at Thomas's question. "She's 11, but she acts much older. When I first met Eloise, she reminded me of her in some ways. Egret and I are very close. At the Reaping, when they called my name, I sorta hoped to help end these Games so she'd never have to be in the Reaping... I also have a little brother, Robin. He's 8. We're not as close...Sometimes I can be a bit too honest and rough with my words, so I think that scares him."
Wren was glad to talk about home. He hadn't done this since training days..."How about you, what's your family like?"

"Aren't little sister's great? Mine is only five- but she's amazing. Already so independent... and very stubborn." He paused, no one had asked him about his family during the games, or even during training. "I live... er... lived with my Aunt, Uncle, and cousin... he's about my age. My aunt and uncle don't particularly like Darla or me... They just spend all their time and energy on my cousin. They just use me for the little income I'm able to scrape by."
He sighed, "As awful as it is to be here, it's nice to not be completely ignored for once."

Wren smiled at Thomas. "Well, Darla sounds pretty great. And your aunt and uncle sound a bit like my dad with Robin. I'm...somewhat of a disappoint to him, I guess. That's probably a part of why I feel the need to prove myself here. I know it rubs people the wrong way, especially like Reese, but it's just part of my drive, ya know?"
He sat closer to Thomas. "If we live, I'd love to hang out sometime. Not that this isn't hanging out, but.." Wren looked around. "it's not ideal for making friends." He laughed.

"Is Robin your step mom? I understand that you feel the need to prove yourself- I was like that when I was younger, but as I grew older I began to see things differently. I learned that it really doesn't matter what other people think of you. As long as you know you are a valuable humanbeing- that's all that matters! Screw everyone else who says otherwise. Actions speak louder than words- I see your worth through all you've done to help your friends, even without hearing about accomplishments that I wasn't around for. Don't let the haters get cha down!"

Eloise used the corner hallway mirror at the hospital to look at her hair. "Thanks Thomas, looks great! It'll probably help to keep my hair tight anyway as we're getting our hands dirty over the next few days." She gave Thomas a quick hug. She sat down as she admired her hair and started humming again. Slowly the lyrics came back to her as she started to sing to herself and doze off in the afternoon sunlight. "Knee deep in the flowers we'll stay And keep the ....showers away And if I kiss you in the garden, in the moonlight, Will you pardon me?"My food level is at a 7 and I'm currently at full health. I used two actions to shoot the mutation and one to spy on the hovercraft. I rolled an 11. Sorry!
